Cale fell silent.
And that silence only made Chris more suspicious of his brother.
“Now tell me everything in detail without hiding anything. I know that in front of Mom and Dad, you picked and chose which parts of the story they could handle and which parts you kept hidden from the reality of the situation.”
Cale laughed softly.
“If you won’t tell me, then I take back everything I said earlier. I won’t be Naomi’s shield. No matter what happens.”
Before Cale could open his mouth to respond, a soft knock sounded at the door. The next second, it opened, and Daven stepped into the room where Cale and Chris were.
He looked from Chris to Cale, then back again before firmly closing the door behind him.
“Chris is right, Cale,” Daven cut in, walking toward the desk with an expression that was no less serious.
“I agree with him. You didn’t tell us the whole story.”
Daven stopped right beside Chris, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked at Cale with a demanding gaze. “The two of us would be willing to help, no matter what it is. So stop carrying all of this on your own.”
Cale did not respond to either of them immediately. Instead, his gaze drifted to the bookshelves that filled the library. For several seconds, the only thing that could be heard was silence.
As though he were considering something. Not because he did not want to talk. But because he knew that once all the information left his mouth, Chris and Daven would no longer be able to pretend that this problem was simple.
“Alright,” Cale said, his voice sounding tired yet sharp. “I’ll tell you everything.”
“Without hiding anything else, Cale. Because if I find out even the slightest piece of information from somewhere else instead of from you, I will truly be standing on the opposite side from you.”
Cale straightened his back, a sign that he was beginning to take their conversation seriously. “You’re right. What I told Mom and Dad was only a small part of what we’re dealing with. This isn’t just an ordinary internal matter. It involves Don Falcon. And worse, Silas Evermont. I’m certain he’s already making his move, even though I don’t know the full extent of it yet.”
The moment Silas Evermont’s name was mentioned, Chris’s and Daven’s expressions immediately tightened. They both knew exactly who Silas was and how dirty his methods were in the outside world.
For businessmen like them, there were certain names people avoided becoming associated with. Not because they did not want to, but because dealing with such people inevitably created obstacles at some point. One of those names was Silas Evermont.
