And the fear that always surfaced whenever someone asked too many questions about her family.
None of it had been a coincidence after all.
“Your father knew the Chen family would one day collapse from within,” Park Jin continued back then. “And the only way to keep the last heir alive was to keep her far away from Hong Kong.”
Naomi slowly lowered her gaze.
The last heir.
She still wasn’t used to hearing that title.
It felt far too heavy for someone as ordinary as her. Even now, at twenty-one years old, she had never once imagined she came from a background like this.
The evening breeze drifted through the garden once more. Naomi lifted her eyes toward the vast grounds in front of her. This mansion felt far calmer than the tragic story she had just heard.
“And now?” Naomi had asked softly at the time. “Is Cale still the one holding all of it together?”
Park Jin nodded slowly.
“What remains of the Chen family’s influence is currently in Young Master Kailun’s hands.”
That answer left Naomi silent for quite a while.
Because for the very first time, she finally began to understand something.
The way Cale had acted when they first met. Everything that had happened to her recently. Cale’s anger that suddenly made far more sense now. And the people who kept targeting her.
It was possible Don Falcon already knew who she really was.
And maybe that was why Cale became so furious every time someone spoke about her as though she were some object to be traded around.
Naomi let out a slow breath.
“Can he really be trusted?” she finally asked.
Park Jin smiled faintly.
“I’ve worked for the Chen family for more than thirty years, Miss.” His gaze softened warmly. “And in all that time, I’ve never seen anyone more dedicated than Young Master Kailun.”
“Even after all that power ended up in his hands?”
“Precisely because all of it ended up in his hands.”
Naomi frowned in confusion.
Park Jin continued calmly, “If Young Master Kailun wanted to, the entire Chen family legacy could’ve belonged to him a long time ago. Completely.”
Without realizing it, Naomi’s fingers tightened against each other.

“But he never did that.”
“Why?”
“Because none of it belongs to him.” The answer came simply, yet sincerely. “And there’s something else you should know, Miss Naomi. Young Master Kai isn’t an ordinary man either. His father is Nathaniel Miller, the owner of the world’s third-largest company, TnC Group.”
“No wonder his personality is so annoying,” Naomi muttered under her breath.
Park Jin chuckled softly. “Even we only found out after Young Master Kai became your father’s right-hand man, Miss Naomi. Before that, we simply thought he was just a hardworking and honest young man.”
Naomi lowered her gaze to the tea in front of her, watching the steam slowly disappear from the surface.
“Your father entrusted everything to Young Master Kailun,” Park Jin continued gently. “Including your life.”
For a long moment, Park Jin simply looked at Naomi before softly patting her shoulder.
“You don’t need to worry too much,” he said reassuringly. “Young Master Kai is someone you can truly rely on.”
Naomi slowly rubbed the side of her teacup with her thumb.
Her chest felt strange. A confusing mixture of guilt, confusion, and something else she couldn’t even begin to explain. All this time, she had thought Cale was just an overbearing man who loved controlling other people’s lives.
But apparently… from the very beginning, he had been standing at the very front line protecting her.
“Naomi?”
The gentle voice from behind pulled Naomi out of her thoughts instantly. Every conversation she had with Park Jin scattered from her mind just like that. She turned and found Lydia walking toward the gazebo with calm, unhurried steps. The woman had already changed into more casual clothes after returning from the office with
Cale.
“So this is where you are,” Lydia said with a small smile.
Naomi quickly looked away. “I just wanted some fresh air.”
“Finished swimming?” Lydia sat across from her and leaned back comfortably in the chair. “Ah, now you’re making me want to swim too.”
“Yeah, just now.” Naomi gave a faint smile. “I needed something to distract myself.”
Lydia watched her quietly for a few seconds before asking softly, “Did it work?”
Naomi fell silent for a moment, then slowly shook her head.
“Not really.”
