The office door opened slowly, and three men stepped inside with uneven, limping strides. Their faces were bruised, one of them with a split lip. Another held his ribs, struggling to hide the pain every time he breathed. None of them dared lift their heads too high.

The spacious, dark-toned room suddenly felt far more suffocating as the man behind the desk watched

them in silence.

Falcon sat comfortably in his leather chair, one arm resting on the armrest while the other lazily rotated a glass filled with dark liquor. His posture was calm, but that calmness was the most frightening thing in

the room.

“You came back,” he said at last.

The three men exchanged nervous glances.

“Boss…” one of them began, his throat dry. “We almost brought the girl.”

“Almost?” Falcon lifted a brow. “I don’t pay people for the word almost.”

The man swallowed hard. “Someone got in the way.”

Falcon set his glass down slowly. The soft sound of glass touching wood was enough to make all three men stiffen instantly. They glanced at one another again, then lowered their heads even further.

Without him saying another word, they knew.

The man in front of them was restraining himself.

“Impressive.” He leaned forward slightly. “So three grown men failed to drag off one small girl because someone interfered.”

“He brought people with him, Boss,” another man blurted quickly. “We didn’t expect security.”

“And you ran?”

No one answered. 1

Falcon smiled faintly, though there was no warmth in it at all. “Look at your faces. I don’t even need to hear the answer.”

He rose from his chair.

His steps were calm as he approached them one by one. His eyes moved over the bruises on their cheeks, the dried blood at the corner of a mouth, the shoulder hanging stiffly out of place.

“Who was the man?”

“We don’t know, Boss.”

Falcon stopped directly in front of the one who had spoken. “You don’t know?”

“He… he was dressed like security. Asian man. Maybe in his forties. There were several staff with him

too.”

Falcon tilted his head slightly. “Do you know his name?”

“We didn’t have time to find out.”

“And you don’t know where they came from either?”

“We… we don’t know.”

Falcon’s gaze turned completely cold. “So what you brought back tonight was not Naomi. Not a victory. Not even useful information.”

The man hurriedly lowered his head. “Sorry, Boss.”

Without warning, Falcon slammed his fist against the table beside them. The sharp crash echoed through the room. All three men instinctively stumbled half a step back.

“Don’t apologize to me when you come back empty-handed.”

Silence swallowed the room again. Their breathing was suddenly loud in the stillness. It almost felt as if their pounding hearts could be heard too.

Falcon turned away, adjusting the cuff of his shirt as though he had done nothing at all.

“Find out who that man was. Where they’re staying. If they’re security, find out which company they belong to. Anyone connected to him. Anyone.”

“Yes, Boss.”

“And the girl…” He glanced back over one shoulder. “I don’t like having something taken from me once I’ve already laid claim to it.”

“What if… what if she runs out of the city?”

Falcon smiled, sly and unsettling. “People like her never truly have anywhere to run.”

He walked back toward his desk. “Get out of my sight before I change my mind.”

The three men nearly ran for the door.

Once it closed behind them, Falcon stared at the large window reflecting his own image back at him. His eyes were sharp, disturbed, restless.

Naomi should have been standing in front of him tonight.

Instead, someone else had stepped into his affairs.

“That makes things more interesting,” he murmured.

Across the city, the atmosphere inside the hotel suite was far calmer. The main lights had been dimmed, leaving only the warm glow of a lamp in the corner. Lydia had fallen asleep in the bedroom beside Naomi, who had finally calmed down after crying for a long time. The only sounds were the steady hum of the air conditioner and the distant murmur of traffic outside.

Cale stood near the window, his shirt still as neat as it had been hours ago. A cup of black coffee sat cooling untouched on the side table. His eyes rested on the glittering city below, but his thoughts were clearly elsewhere.

Liu stood a few steps behind him. “Miss Naomi finally fell asleep.”

“What did the doctor say about Naomi?”

“Her injuries have been treated. Nothing serious. But the doctor is concerned she’s suffering from shock

and severe exhaustion.”

Cale’s jaw tightened slightly. “I should never have let her go back to that apartment.”

“No one expected Falcon to move this quickly.”

“I should have.”

Liu said nothing. He knew when to let his master judge events in silence.

A few seconds passed before Cale spoke again.

“Did you get any information from the men who went after Naomi?”

“I believe they were just ordinary hired staff. Not particularly trained,” Liu answered calmly.

“Meaning Falcon still doesn’t consider this serious.”

“Or he still doesn’t know Miss Naomi’s true value.”

That made Cale finally turn toward him. “You think so?”

“If he knew who Miss Naomi was, he wouldn’t be trying to drag her in over some absurd debt. And he certainly wouldn’t have sent three useless thugs.”

Cale walked to the sofa and sat down, clasping his hands together. “Keep watching him.”

“Yes, Mr. Cale.”

“I want to know who he contacts tomorrow. Where he goes. Who he sends to speak for him.”

“Yes, sir.”

Cale lifted his gaze. “Any word from Brandon?”

“The ten o’clock meeting has been confirmed.”
