HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 668

Chapter 668

“Thank you,” Naomi said, bowing her head slightly to Liu, who had escorted her home that night. Her voice was soft, nearly swallowed by the whisper of the night wind slipping through the corridor of the old apartment building where she lived. The hallway lights glowed dimly, casting long shadows across the worn floor. Liu stood a few steps away from her, still carrying the same upright, vigilant posture he had worn since the moment they first met.

He gave a short nod. “Miss Naomi, listen to me carefully.” His tone was low but firm, enough to make Naomi, exhausted as she was, force herself to stay focused. “Starting tonight, you need to be more careful than ever before.”

Naomi stared at him for a few seconds. “Is someone going to come looking for me?” The question came out hesitant, almost uncertain, as if even she couldn’t believe the possibility of what he was implying.

She had lived in this country for more than a decade. It seemed impossible that anyone tied to her family’s past would search for her all the way here. Even meeting Cale Miller felt to her like nothing more than fate playing some strange game.

“It could happen, Miss Naomi,” Liu replied, doing his best to remain calm. “I only hope that until the right time comes, your identity remains completely unknown to others. Except for those who have a direct stake in your life.”

Naomi’s fingers tightened around the strap of the small bag she still carried. “I still don’t understand any of this.”

“That’s only natural.” Liu glanced briefly at the apartment door behind her, then looked back at her. “You were told too much, too quickly tonight. Mr. Cale knows that as well.”

At the mention of that name, Naomi fell silent. It was still hard for her to reconcile the cold, intimidating man who had cornered her in the hotel with the name that, for years, had existed only as a shadow from the past.

Liu continued, “For now, Mr. Cale is limited in what he can do to protect you in this city. The situation is not secure enough, and several parties are already making moves. But once you are in Hong Kong, he will find a more certain way.”

Naomi frowned. “Hong Kong?”

“I’ve already begun arranging your relocation.”

“What?” Naomi stared at him in shock. “Just like that?”

“Not just like that.” Liu remained composed. “This is the most reasonable decision. You are not safe here.”

Naomi let out a small laugh. “How funny. I’ve lived alone for years, and no one ever cared whether I was safe or not.”

For the first time, Liu’s expression softened slightly. “Maybe someone did care. They were just too late in finding you.”

Something about those words made Naomi’s chest tighten strangely. She turned her face away, avoiding his gaze. “I haven’t said yes.”

“You don’t need to tonight.” Liu took out a business card and held it out to her. “Keep this. It has my private number. If anything unusual happens, call me anytime.”

Naomi accepted the card slowly. “What if I refuse to go?”

“Then I’ll still ask you to be careful.” Liu paused for a moment. “And to keep hiding who you really are.”

Silence lingered between them for several seconds. Naomi looked down at the small print on the card as if it were written in a language she couldn’t understand. “I’m not even sure who I am anymore.”

Liu didn’t answer that. He simply said, “Go inside. Lock your door from the inside.”

Naomi gave a faint nod. “Thank you… for tonight.”

“I’m only doing my job.” But before she turned away, Liu added, “And Miss Naomi, don’t trust anyone who suddenly wants to help you.”

“Including Mr. Cale?”

A slight shift crossed Liu’s eyes, as though the question interested him. “He is the exception. Because in the end, you will be under his protection.”
