Chapter 567
Slowly, several commissioners began to nod. The doubt hadn’t disappeared completely, but for the first time that morning, they were no longer looking at a company in crisis.
They were looking at leadership. His voice didn’t rise, yet it carried quiet certainty.
“I won’t allow one individual to tear down everything we’ve worked for. We’ll come through this stronger than before.”
The silence that followed was different this time-not tense, but steady, as confidence gradually returned. After several more questions and follow-up discussions, the meeting was finally adjourned.
Nearly two hours after strategic discussions and decisions, the commissioners left the room one by one. The tension hadn’t vanished entirely, but the direction was now clear.
And for the first time since the crisis began, Daven felt that Callister was back on the right track.
Meanwhile, in Daven’s private office, Chris was already seated on the sofa.
His suit was still perfectly neat, though his posture was far more relaxed. In front of him, the television continued replaying the news-Noel’s confession and Selena’s arrest looping over and over.
Chris leaned back, watching the screen with a faint smile.
“Nice move, Cale,” he murmured.
His phone vibrated, making him click his tongue in mild annoyance. But the moment he saw the name on the screen, he straightened immediately.
“Yes, Cale?”
The voice on the other end was brief and calm. Chris listened for a few seconds, and his smile widened.
“Alright,” he replied. “I’ll wait for your next update.”
The call ended just as the office door opened.
Daven walked in, loosening the buttons of his suit jacket and setting it aside. But his steps slowed when he saw Chris. “You’re here already?” he asked.
Chris grinned. “Just got in a few minutes ago.”
Daven glanced at the television. Selena’s face appeared again in the replay, being escorted by the police. He stood there for a moment, watching without a word. There was no trace of sympathy in his expression.
“She’s getting exactly what she deserves,” Daven said at last.
Chris nodded. “She made everything public. Now the public gets to see how it ends.”
Daven walked toward his desk and leaned against the edge.
“What she did wasn’t just a personal attack,” Daven continued quietly. “She dragged the family’s name into it. She used a child to support a lie. That’s not something we could just let go.”

“You’re right.” Chris let out a long breath.
For the first time in what felt like forever, it seemed like the right moment to relax-if only a little. He leaned back comfortably against the sofa, stretching his arms along the backrest as he closed his eyes.
“Finally… peace is within reach.”
A faint smile touched Daven’s lips. “Yeah.”
Chris opened his eyes and looked at him steadily. “Thank you,” he said suddenly.
Daven frowned slightly. “For what?”
“For everything you’ve done,” Chris replied. “Helping us find the truth. Gathering the evidence. And staying by our family’s side when everything was falling apart.”
Daven fell silent for a moment before shaking his head.
“I should be the one thanking you,” he said. “If it weren’t for you and Mr. Nathan, I don’t know how I would’ve handled all of this.”
Chris laughed softly.
just so you know,” he added, “I didn’t do it because of Chase Miller. I did it because the Miller family has so much for me.”
tone grew deeper, more sincere. “They accepted me. They protected Althea. They treated Josh like family from the very beginning.”
He drew a slow breath. “If anyone tries to hurt you or tear this family apart, then it’s only right that I stand at the front.”
Chris smiled again-warmer this time. “You don’t have to explain it that much.” He stepped closer and gave Daven’s shoulder a firm pat. “We’re family,” he said. “And we always will be.”
Chris held his gaze. “Even if Grace had never existed, to us-me, Cale, Mom, and Dad—Althea would still be part of the Miller family. And Josh would still be our beloved nephew.”
He paused, then added with a light grin, “Of course… the Miller family’s first grandson.”
The room fell quiet.
