HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 561

Chapter 561

“Damn it!” Selena muttered, no longer bothering to hide her expression.

She strode out of the garden, her heels striking the stone path in sharp, unrestrained beats. The smile she had forced in front of Althea and the others vanished completely. Her face tightened, her jaw hardened, and her breathing grew heavier than usual.

The moment she stepped inside the house, she didn’t glance left or right. The servants she passed quickly lowered their heads and moved aside without being told. The anger surrounding her was unmistakable-and none of them wanted to risk getting caught in it. Ignoring her was far safer than dealing with someone like Selena.

When she reached the upper floor, she headed straight for Eli’s room.

She pushed the door open without knocking.

Empty.

The bed was neatly made. Her school bag was gone. The study desk was tidy, the books stacked and closed. Selena stood in the doorway for a few seconds before realization struck.

“Damn. She has school today.”

She let out an irritated scoff.

“Not even here for me to scold,” she muttered under her breath.

She shut the door hard and walked toward her own room. Once inside, she locked it and leaned against the door for a moment. Her chest rose and fell as she tried to steady the storm of emotions still churning inside her after the encounter with Althea, Felicia, and Lydia.

“Just wait,” she whispered. “This won’t last much longer.”

She walked over to the large mirror and stared at her reflection. Her face was still tense. Without hesitation, she opened the drawer of her vanity and began fixing her appearance.

Today was not a day to look weak.

Today she was meeting Harold-and that man always had a plan.

Selena chose a bright yellow dress, simple in cut yet elegant. The color brought life to her complexion, giving her an air of confidence. After changing, she sat back down at the vanity and began applying her makeup.

Natural. A light foundation, a soft touch of blush, and a warm-toned lipstick that wasn’t too bold. She wanted to look calm, composed, refined-yet with a subtle dramatic presence.

Someone who appeared fully in control. When she finished, she stood and studied herself once more in the mirror. A faint smile curved her lips.

“Soon,” she murmured. “You’ll be the ones begging for a place at my side. But will I give it to you? Of course not.”

She picked up her handbag and left the room with steady, confident steps.

Downstairs, she approached a servant who was tidying the living room.

“Prepare the car,” she said curtly. “I’m leaving now.”

The servant hesitated. “I’m sorry, ma’am… all the cars are currently in use.”

Selena frowned. “What do you mean?”

“Some are assigned to Mr. Nathan and Mr. Daven’s schedules. The rest are being used for document deliveries and staff transportation. Now, there isn’t a driver available.”

Selena’s expression darkened immediately. “Then call one of them back.”

The servant swallowed nervously. “For changes like that, the request usually has to go through Mrs. Althea.”

Her again?

For heaven’s sake. Was Althea the owner of this house?

No. The owner of this house was Riana Miller. And soon… that woman would be standing on her side.

Selena’s eyes hardened immediately. “Why does everything in this house have to go through her?” Her voice rose a notch. “I’m only asking for a car. It’s not a complicated request.’

The servant lowered her head. “That’s the current procedure, ma’am.”

Selena let out a short, humorless laugh. “How impressive,” she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Is she the owner of this house now?”

The servant could only keep her gaze down. “Perhaps… you should speak with Mrs. Al-”

Selena cut her off at once. She didn’t want to hear Althea’s name again today. Not over something this trivial.

“That won’t be necessary,” she said sharply. “I’ll go on my own.”

Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked out toward the main gate. A few minutes later, she was seated inside a taxi she had summoned through her phone.

Throughout the ride, she stared out the window with a composed expression. But her thoughts were moving quickly. Harold wouldn’t call her without a reason. If he wanted to meet in person, then something big was coming.

Something that could turn everything around.

A faint smile touched her lips.

“Soon,” she murmured. “You’ll all find out who’s really in control.”

The car finally stopped in front of an Italian restaurant in the city center.

The building looked elegant, with a cream-colored stone façade and tall windows. The restaurant’s logo was simple yet refined. As Selena stepped out, a valet immediately approached, and the main door was opened for her by a staff member with professional courtesy.

The moment she entered, a calm atmosphere settled around her.

Warm, soft lighting. Gentle classical music in the background. Polished marble floors. The air carried a blend of coffee and freshly baked bread.
