Chapter 547
“We made it through,” Daven replied.
Althea took a slow breath. Her hand drifted to her stomach.
“But… I’m a little scared.”
Daven’s expression changed instantly. “Scared of what?”
“I’m not young anymore,” she admitted honestly. “I’m worried my body isn’t as strong as it used to be. I don’t want there to be any risks.”
Daven reached for her hand. “We’ll do regular checkups. We’ll follow every recommendation the doctor gives. And this time…” his voice softened, “you won’t go through any of it alone.”
He held her hand, gently stroking it before lifting it to his lips. He pressed a series of soft kisses against her fingers, each one lingering, full of quiet affection.
Althea let him, watching him for a long moment.
“I mean it,” Daven continued. “I’m going to reorganize my schedule. Callister Group will keep running, but I won’t make the same mistake again. I’ll tighten a few things and ask Arsen to oversee operations much more closely.”
“You’re sure?” Althea asked quietly.
Daven nodded. “Arsen and the team are strong enough to handle it. Once the legal issues are completely settled, I’ll restructure several positions. I want to spend more time at home.‘
“”
A faint smile touched Althea’s lips. “Grace will be happy to hear that.”
“So will I,” Daven said. Then he looked at her, a hint of warmth and teasing in his eyes. “But… is Grace the only one who’ll be happy? Won’t you be glad if I’m home more often?”
A faint smile curved on Althea’s lips. “How could the CEO of Callister Group–someone that important–spend too much time at home?”
Daven straightened abruptly, his expression turning serious as his eyes locked onto hers. “Are you worried I won’t be able to provide enough for you?”
“How could you even think that?” Althea let out a soft laugh. She reached up and gently cupped his face, her thumb brushing over the sharp line of his cheek. “How much weight have you lost because of all this?”
Daven squeezed his eyes shut briefly. “I’ll start eating regularly again. I’ll get my strength back.”
“And how long has it been since you shaved?”
Daven studied her for a long moment. “What if… you did it for me?”
A playful smirk appeared on Althea’s face. “The kids are here.”
“Tomorrow?”

“Stop that,” she said, nudging him lightly. “And get your mind out of the gutter, darling.”
Daven chuckled softly. “I wasn’t thinking anything inappropriate. I was just wondering when you’d have time to take care of me.”
Althea clicked her tongue. “From what I remember, whenever I ‘take care of you‘ like that, we end up spending hours in the bathroom.”
Daven’s laughter broke free, though he quickly lowered his voice, careful not to wake the children sleeping on the bed. The room slowly settled into a quiet peace, so still that the soft rhythm of the children’s breathing became part of the calm.
Then Daven’s expression shifted–more serious this time.
“Althea.”
Her brows drew together. The sudden change caught her off guard after their easy conversation. “What is it?”
“There’s something else you need to know,” Daven said quietly.
She looked at him. “About what?”
Daven didn’t answer right away.
He held her gaze for several seconds, as if making sure she was ready to hear what he was about to say.
