Chapter 543
“Yes,” Cale replied casually. “But that’s who he is, isn’t he? Talking as if he’s the smartest man in the room. Still thinking he has a card left to play… and that we’ll fall right into his trap.”
Harold let out another weak chuckle, the sound strained and painful.
“I do have one.”
Chris stepped closer.
“Not anymore.”
One of the guards immediately brought another chair and placed it directly in front of Harold. Chris sat down without hesitation, then reached forward and grabbed Harold’s face, gripping his jaw tightly.
“Bret’s been arrested,” Chris said coldly. “And he’s not getting out anytime soon. Daven won’t give him the slightest chance to defend himself. The media has turned against your little group. One by one, everyone involved is being hunted down by the police. The prosecutor’s office is under investigation. Your money trail has been exposed.”
Harold held Chris’s gaze, refusing to look afraid-though something uneasy flickered deep inside him.
“You think you’ve won?” he forced out.
Cale flicked the ash from his cigar onto the floor.
“Bring them in,” he ordered the men standing behind him.
“Yes, Mr. Cale.”
Chris smirked faintly. “Too bad I can’t add a little artwork to your face myself, Mayor Harold.” He glanced at Cale. “Next time, leave some for me.”
Cale let out a quiet chuckle. “Come back tomorrow. I think his face will look a little better by then.”
A moment later, the guards returned-this time escorting several men inside.
They shuffled forward unsteadily, heads lowered, fear written plainly across their faces.
Cale leaned back slightly.
“Don’t you want to say hello, Harold?” he asked. “The people you paid to cover your tracks. The ones who carried out your orders. Now they’re all sitting in the same room with you.’

Harold turned his head slowly.
Several familiar faces stood there-men who couldn’t even meet his eyes.
For the first time, his breathing faltered. When had Cale captured them?
No… how had he never considered the possibility? He had been so certain the people he paid handsomely would disappear from SunCity without a trace.

Cale’s gaze sharpened, colder than before.
“Are they your last card?” he asked quietly.
A pause.
Then his voice dropped even lower.
“Or… is it, Selena?”
Harold’s jaw tightened as a suppressed growl rumbled in his throat.
“You think I don’t know what you did with Noel?”
Cale rose to his feet, drawing hard on his cigar. The smoke thickened as it curled into the air.
Then he walked toward Noel, who was kneeling beside Oscar.
Noel’s body trembled uncontrollably. His clothes were soaked-he had clearly been dragged awake not long ago. Fresh bruises and cuts were visible along his arms, across his back, and on his face.
Without a word, Cale grabbed a fistful of Noel’s thick hair and yanked his head back.
Noel gasped, his eyes wide with fear as he was forced to look up.
“Wh-what else do you want to know, Mr. Miller?” he stammered.
Cale tilted his head slightly.
“Hmm. How about your big confession?” he said calmly. “The one about Selena.”
Harold’s eyes widened.
“H-how did you-”
“How did I find out?” Cale cut in, a satisfied smirk curling his lips. “You think I’m stupid?”
The crack of the slap echoed sharply through the room as Cale struck Harold across the face.
Cale didn’t even look back at him.
He kept his eyes on Noel.
“So,” he said coldly, “are you going to tell the truth you’ve been hiding?”
“Yes! Yes, sir-I will!” Noel cried immediately, his voice breaking. “Please… I’ll tell you anything you want.”
“Even if it means admitting you lied to the press?” Cale asked. “Even if it means revealing who Selena really is?”
Across the room, Harold struggled to stay conscious. Pain pulsed through his body, but panic hit harder.
Noel’s testimony was the key.
If Noel talked, everything would collapse.

“No,” Harold rasped, his breathing uneven. “You can’t do this, Noel. Your family is being watched by my people.”
Cale burst into loud laughter.
“Noel,” he said lightly, “do you actually believe him?”
Noel shook his head frantically.
