HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 528

Chapter 528

Althea gave a faint smile. “I still can’t stand beside those memories without feeling the darkness of that time.”

“And now, let me walk through this with you from the very beginning,” he said. “Through the pregnancy. Through the birth. Raising our child. Being there until they grow up and reach their dreams. Just like the chance you gave me to be there for Josh and Grace.”

He lifted her hand and kissed the back of it again, lingering this time, the gesture slow and full of tenderness.

“Will you let me?”

“Of course.” Althea’s smile softened, filled with quiet happiness. “I don’t want anyone beside me but you. And this pregnancy… it really is the most beautiful gift God has given us.”

“And I’m sure Chase would be very happy knowing Grace is getting a new sibling.”

Althea nodded gently. “When everything has returned to normal… I want to visit his grave.”

“Of course.” Daven brushed a brief kiss against Althea’s lips. “Whatever you want, I’ll do my best to make it happen.” His fingers lingered gently where he had just kissed her. “Anything. Because you are the love of my life. My world. My everything.”

“Oh, Daven,” Althea groaned lightly, pretending to be reluctant. “Since when you became so good with sweet words like that?”

The question made Daven look at her intently. “You don’t like it? But that’s the truth of my heart, Althea.”

She couldn’t hold back anymore. A laugh escaped her-free and light. It felt like the first genuine laugh she’d had since all their troubles began.

A soft knock on the door drew their attention. A doctor entered, followed by a nurse. His expression was warm, though his manner remained professional.

“How are you feeling now, Mrs. Callister?” he asked.

“Much better,” Althea replied.

The doctor first checked her blood pressure and pulse. Daven stood beside the bed, watching every movement carefully.

“Your condition is stable,” the doctor said once he finished. “However, there are a few things I need to explain regarding your pregnancy.”

Althea straightened slightly at once.

“This pregnancy is still in its very early stage,” the doctor continued. “And your body has been under significant physical and emotional stress recently. That’s why you fainted.”

Daven frowned. “Is there any risk?”

“There are several things you’ll need to pay attention to,” the doctor replied. “You must avoid exhaustion, excessive emotional stress, and any heavy physical activity.”

He looked at Althea seriously. “The most important thing is adequate rest and keeping your mental condition stable.”

Althea nodded. “I understand.”

“We’ll also schedule more frequent checkups to make sure the baby’s development progresses well.”

“We’ll follow all the recommendations,” Daven said immediately.

The doctor gave a small, approving smile. “That’s a good decision.”

After giving a few additional instructions, the doctor and nurse left the room. The quiet returned.

Althea leaned gently against Daven’s shoulder. “I need to be more careful now.”

Daven sat beside her. “Now it’s not just you I have to protect.”

Althea smiled. “Since when you have ever stopped protecting me?”

Daven didn’t answer. He simply tightened his hold on her hand.

Truthfully, he still couldn’t believe he had been given a chance like this. No-he wouldn’t waste a single moment. Not when he had the opportunity to stand beside Althea again, every step of the way.

Another knock sounded at the door. This time, it opened without much delay.

Cale stepped inside quickly, though his expression wasn’t as tense as usual. He paused the moment he saw the look on Daven and Althea’s faces.

“I’m not interrupting anything, am I?” he asked.

Daven looked at him. “What’s going on?”

Cale didn’t answer right away. Instead, he pulled out a tablet and turned the screen on.

“Good news,” he said briefly. His tone was light, but his expression wasn’t entirely relaxed.
