HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 487

Chapter 487

Eli had no choice but to nod, even though the weight in her chest flt unbearable.

They kept walking toward the crowd-toward the towering glass-ronted building-where cameras were already raised, microphones lined up, and bright lights blazing, ready to capture whatever was about to happen.

This clearly wasn’t just any building. Eli had never been here before. But she remembered reading about SunCity once-about several public facilities funded by the city’s central government, boilt for civic activities. And this was one of them.

The name stood out clearly on the façade: SunCity Public Convention Hall-a place where major press conferences were held. Where companies, political figures, and influential families either restored their reputations… or watched them crumble in full view of the public.

“Mom,” Eli’s voice barely came out. “There are so many reporters. Is this really okay?”

Selena tightened her grip around Eli’s wrist, just a little too hard. That’s exactly why we’re here.”

“For what?” Eli asked, panicking creeping in.

“For the moment you stop hiding,” Selena said with a meaningful smile. “It’s time the world knows who you really are.”

Before Eli could ask anything else, their presence was noticed. The crowd surged toward them all at once, ignoring personal space as security hurried to flank Selena and Eli.

“SELENA WARD!”

“IS IT TRUE YOU’RE MAKING A STATEMENT TODAY?”

“IS THIS ABOUT THE MILLER FAMILY?”

Cameras swung in their direction. Flashes exploded one after another. Eli trembled beside her mother. Her legs felt unbearably heavy, her palms cold and slick with sweat. She walked with her head lowered-not only because she wasn’t used to this kind of attention, but because she was afraid.

Afraid that whatever her mother was about to do would hurt people

Especially Riana and Josh.

“Mom, I’m not ready,” she whispered, her voice shaking.

Selena smiled faintly and leaned close to Eli’s ear. “There’s no such thing as ready in the adult world.”

They were ushered inside, the questions growing louder behind them. Eli didn’t know how her legs were still moving. Her mind was blank. All she could feel was her heart pounding so hard it hurt

The conference room was already full. Selena and Eli were guided to their seats at the front.

Rows of reporters filled the chairs. Television cameras were live. Alarge screen behind the podium displayed the official SunCity logo. At the bottom of the screen, a name appeared clearly:

SELENA WARD LIVE BROADCAST

Selena pulled out a chair and seated Eli beside her, directly in front of the microphone.

“Mom,” Eli whispered, close to tears, “please tell me this is a mistake.”

Selena tapped the back of Eli’s hand-cool, firm. “Sit still. Don’t say a word unless I tell you to. I have already warned you. If you mess this up today, I won’t hold back. Do you understand?”

Eli looked at her mother, eyes glassy. She didn’t know what had taken hold of Selena’s mind, driving her to act like this-as if being acknowledged by the Miller family had become an absolute ecessity.

Why did everything have to be forced, when they could have grow closer to the Millers in a warmer, gentler way?

Why?

But Eli had never been able to find the answer.

The moderator stepped forward, signaling that the event was abou to begin.

“The press conference will now commence.”

The room fell instantly silent. Selena reached for the microphone, faint smile on her lips. Her gaze swept across everyone present. Inside her chest, excitement screamed loudly. In her mind she couldn’t wait to see how Riana Miller-and… Althea- would react.

What will you do now? she thought. When I asked for acknowledgment the proper way, you ignored me. Don’t blame me for this.

“Thank you for coming,” she said calmly. “Today, I am not standing here as a woman seeking attention. I am standing here as a mother.”

A few reporters exchanged glances, but their hands kept moving recording, typing, documenting every word.

Selena continued, “For far too long, my child and I chose to remain silent. For far too long, the truth was buried to protect the name of one powerful family.”

Eli turned sharply. “Mom-”
