At the prosecutor’s office, Daven received the report with a long, heavy breath. Just the night before, he’d finally felt a sliver of calm-thanks to Althea’s visit, and the quiet strength his wife had given him to face all of this.

But this morning’s news sent his emotions surging all over again. If he hadn’t remembered whose phone he was holding, it would have shattered against the wall by now.

“They’re taking advantage of the moment-of you being brought into this building,” his lawyer said carefully. From the moment he began delivering the information, he’d already anticipated his client’s reaction.

Even though Daven was known for his calm demeanor and few words, the situation facing the blue-eyed man was enough to push anyone to the edge.

“The public pressure is now being directed straight at your position as CEO.”

“What do they actually want?” Daven rubbed his temples, half-frantic. “Damn it.”

He stood up abruptly. The chair he’d been sitting on scraped loudly across the floor. Then he walked toward the window in the corner of the room. The glass was slightly opaque, but he could still make out vague silhouettes of people moving beyond it—shadows deliberately kept out of reach. His hands slowly curled into fists.

“This isn’t about the company,” he said lowly. “This is about taking me down.”

“I agree, Mr. Daven,” the lawyer replied. “And as long as you’re under the prosecutor’s supervision, your movements are locked down. Every decision you make can be interpreted as an attempt to escape.”

Daven dragged a hand over his face, pressing against his throbbing temples. The anger was real-hot, dense, suffocating. And yet there wasn’t a single outlet for it.

“Mr. Richard is still trying to get you out of here, at least temporarily. Please be patient,” the lawyer said, bowing his head slightly.

“Everyone’s moving,” Daven murmured, more to himself than anyone else. “The media. Investors. Employees with their endless demands out there-everyone playing their part. And me…” He let out a short, humorless laugh. “I sit here and I’m told to wait.”

“Waiting doesn’t mean losing,” his lawyer said calmly. “This is a phase. If you react now, they win.”

Daven nodded slowly. He knew that. And precisely because he knew it, the frustration hurt even more.

The phone on the table vibrated. Chris’s name lit up the screen.

Daven answered immediately. “Yes.”

“I’m sure you already know what’s happening in front of your office,” Chris said with a long exhale.

“It’s a shame there’s no TV in this room,” Daven replied dryly. “Otherwise, I might’ve smashed it watching people shout nonsense outside my office.”

“You know,” Chris’s voice was tense but controlled, “most of the people in that protest aren’t your employees. Arsen guaranteed it. He’s already confirmed it with several parties-including branches from outside the city.”

Daven closed his eyes. “Explain in more detail-and why are you the one reporting this to me? Where’s Arsen?”

“Can’t you imagine how busy he is right now?” Chris let out a quiet laugh.

Daven finally managed to ease some of the tension in his chest. “So what exactly are you calling to report-aside from confirming whether I already know about the protest demanding I step down as CEO?”

“They’re claiming to be from outside branches,” Chris continued. “But their identities don’t line up. Too many unfamiliar faces. Arsen and the PR team are convinced they’re paid crowds-manufactured to create the impression that our own people are rebelling.”

Daven held his breath for a moment. “Harold.”

“Exactly,” Chris replied. “I’m certain he’s behind all of this.”

“I’m entrusting you with several decisions on this matter, Chris,” Daven said firmly. “Handle the situation at the office with Arsen. Make sure my employees are safe and don’t get provoked. Don’t give those fake workers any leverage-don’t let them think their demands will be met.”

“I know what to do,” Chris answered. Then, after a brief pause, he added, “My father just arrived.”

Daven’s gaze sharpened. “Mr. Nathan?”
