Chapter 472
“I’m going to the prosecutor’s office.”
The words left Althea’s mouth flatly yet filled with resolve. She stood in the living room, phone still in her hand, waiting for Arsen’s response on the other end. Josh and Grace were already being looked after by Lydia and seemed to have started forgetting what had happened earlier that day.
But Althea couldn’t stay still. She needed to see her husband for herself. She needed to know how he was.
“No, Mrs. Althea,” Arsen’s voice tightened immediately. “I wouldn’t advise that.”
“Arsen,” Althea took a short breath, “I’m not asking for your advice. I’m telling you what I’m going to do.”
“The situation at the prosecutor’s office is unstable,” Arsen tried to hold his ground. “Reporters are still gathered there, waiting for further developments regarding Mr. Daven. Every move you make will be recorded and interpreted in all kinds of ways.”
“That’s exactly why,” Althea shot back. “Daven is alone in there.”
“He’s not alone,” Arsen argued. “There’s supervision, there are officers—”
“That’s not what I mean,” Althea cut in. Her voice rose slightly before she forced it back down. “As his wife, I have the right to be there.”
Silence fell on the line.
“Mrs. Althea,” Arsen said more quietly, “your presence could make things worse. They’re looking for openings. Don’t give them additional material to corner Mr. Daven further. And I believe Mr. Daven, for the time being, doesn’t want you visiting him.”
Althea closed her eyes, holding back the surge of emotion pressing against her chest. “Do you really think I’ll believe that? I’m Daven’s wife. I need to know how he is-right now. Do you understand?”
Nathan, who had been silent until now, finally stepped forward. “Give me the phone.”
Althea turned and handed it over without protest. Her face was flushed with restrained emotion.
“Arsen, this is Nathan,” Nathan said calmly, but firmly. “Let Althea go.”
“Mr. Nathan-
“There’s nothing wrong with her doing so,” Nathan continued. “Daven hasn’t broken the law. And as family, Althea’s presence cannot be forbidden.”
“But the media pressure-
“I’ll take responsibility for that,” Nathan cut in. “And if anyone has an issue with it, they can deal with me.”
Silence returned-longer than before.
“I’ll arrange an escort,” Arsen finally said, reluctant but compliant. “And I ask that Mrs. Althea follow the legal team’s instructions.”

“I won’t act recklessly,” Althea replied. “I just want to see my husband.”
The call ended.
It didn’t take long before two members of the legal team handling Daven’s case arrived at the Miller family residence. They were immediately shown into Nathan’s study. Sitting across from Althea, thick folders were neatly arranged on the desk between them.
“Mr. Daven’s situation is far from simple,” one of the lawyers began. “Even without an official detention order, the status of heightened supervision severely limits his movements.”
“What does that mean?” Althea asked.
“Every communication is monitored,” the lawyer continued. “Every meeting is recorded. And most importantly -the seizure of company files means we can’t access all the comparative data we need.”
“But he’s already proven the projects he handled were clean,” Althea cut in.
“Exactly,” the second lawyer agreed. “That’s what makes this situation so irregular. Legally, the investigation should be easing up, not tightening. And Mr. Daven shouldn’t need to remain there, even temporarily.”
Nathan leaned back in his chair. “So they’re holding him without proper procedure?”
“More or less,” the lawyer replied. “They’re justifying it by saying further examination is necessary. That’s why Mr. Daven isn’t allowed to leave yet. The pressure isn’t coming from evidence-it’s coming from perception. And our lead counsel has already discussed many of these points with Mr. Daven.”
Althea curled her fingers into a fist. “What about the media?”
“That’s beyond our control,” the lawyer answered honestly. “But when you go to the prosecutor’s office, you must be careful. Don’t make any statements without us present.”
“I’m not going there to speak to the media,” Althea said firmly. “I’m going for Daven.”
The lawyer nodded. “We’ll accompany you. Get ready-we’ll be waiting.”

The car slowed before coming to a stop directly in front of the prosecutor’s office.
Through the window, Althea could already see the crowd-reporters who hadn’t left, cameras ready to be raised at any moment, and flashes going off sporadically even without a main subject. The sight weighed heavily on her chest.
She was reminded of what had happened years ago.
Why did she have to face this again?
Even so, Althea didn’t hesitate. Her heart was set on seeing her husband. She only hoped all of this would end
soon.
She took a long breath, then opened the car door.
The moment her foot touched the pavement, the atmosphere erupted. Cameras lifted almost simultaneously.

Microphones were thrust toward her from every direction.
“Mrs. Althea!”
“Do you believe your husband is innocent?”
“Is it true the Callister family will take legal action against the prosecution?”
“Do you know anything about the case involving your husband?”
The questions came in a relentless wave, leaving no room to breathe. Several reporters stepped too close before security moved quickly, forming a thin barrier.
