One of the staff members asked Eli and Natalie to sit opposite each other. “Sit down. Both of you will explain what happened.”

Eli sat down without arguing. Natalie also sat, but she still looked upset. She occasionally rubbed her cheek while taking deep breaths.

Another staff member took several forms from the desk.

There was a long scratch on her cheek stretching from near her cheekbone toward the side of her face. The scratch was quite visible, making Natalie’s face, which had previously only been red from crying, now look genuinely injured.

“When did this happen?”

No one answered.

Eli also stared at the injury on Natalie’s face for a few seconds.
