“I heard David really cared about her and always paid attention to her, but she got close to Josh instead. It’s obvious she was deliberately seeking attention and taking advantage of the situation,” another friend chimed in.

Eli clenched both her hands. She walked toward them with a sharp gaze. “What are you talking about? Say it again if you dare. Say it to my face.”

The group of female students immediately fell silent, then one of them scoffed sarcastically before folding her arms across her chest. “What? Offended? That’s the truth, isn’t it?”

“You don’t know anything, so don’t go around spreading lies!” Eli snapped, her voice beginning to rise as she held back her anger.

“Why are you getting angry? You’re the one at fault,” the female student shot back just as fiercely. “If you don’t want people gossiping about you, watch your behavior! You should be grateful you got to be the Raven basketball team captain’s girlfriend!”

Before Eli could answer, another female student interrupted. “She’s probably just desperate for attention. I’m sure she was the one who approached David first, and Josh too.”

“Exactly! She probably wanted to take advantage of both basketball captains at once,” another student who had joined in chimed in. “Tell us how you managed to seduce both of them.”

Eli suddenly felt her chest tighten. Her throat became painfully constricted, while her eyes burned as she held back tears of disappointment that were threatening to spill. She looked at each of the faces around her, all of them staring at her with judgment.

“You think you know everything... you don’t even know me! You don’t know the real story either, yet you’re judging me just like that,” Eli’s voice trembled violently.

“Come on, let’s go. Don’t waste your time talking to a manipulative girl like her,” one of them urged as she walked away, leaving Eli standing there alone.

Amid the crowded whispers about her, Eli stood frozen with her fists clenched.

Anger, frustration, and helplessness mixed together and struck her chest. She had never cheated, yet now it seemed as if the entire campus had agreed to judge her without even giving her a chance to defend herself.

“This is no longer just some passing gossip that will disappear on its own in a day, two days, or even a week,” Eli murmured softly, staring at the reflection of her own face in the glass window.
