“Nat,” the man called.
Natalie turned and smiled. “Hm?”
“I don’t mean to interfere, but I accidentally overheard your conversation with David earlier.”
Natalie raised an eyebrow. “About what?”
“Eli.”
Natalie’s smile slowly faded. She looked at the man for a few seconds before letting out a small sigh.
“Is it true that David and Eli were dating?” The man’s girlfriend also looked at Natalie curiously. Apparently, the question had made her curious too.
Natalie did not answer immediately. Instead, she turned toward David, who was practicing with his teammates.
“Yes,” she finally answered. “They were dating.”
“Were?” the man repeated.
Natalie nodded slowly. “They’ve broken up now.”
“Then... what does that have to do with Josh?” he asked again. “I’ve seen Eli with Josh a few times. But I thought they were just friends.”
Natalie smiled faintly, as if the question had put her in a difficult position.
“I thought so at first too.” She paused for a moment. “Eli is very good at making everything look simple.”
The two people in front of her exchanged glances.
“I don’t want to speak badly of Eli,” Natalie continued quickly. “After all, she used to be David’s girlfriend. And... I’m also friends with her. I don’t want to make other people misunderstand her.”
Her tone only made them even more curious.
“Then what actually happened?”
Natalie took a deep breath.
“David cares about Eli very much. He cares about her so much that he didn’t want to make their relationship public to protect Eli. You know what David’s fans are like, right?” Natalie let out a long sigh before continuing, “As far as I know, David has always tried to understand Eli’s busy schedule, always tried to make time for her, even when there were so many things he had to do with the team.”
She lowered her head for a moment.
