Suri gripped Evadne's hand, her eyes wide with fear. "If, as you say, this mastermind still has a use for Hubery, why would they try to kill him?"
Evadne was taken aback. Her mind raced. Hubery hadn't regained his memories, and Chad needed him now more than ever. Why would he order a hit? Could there be a third party involved, someone trying to eliminate Hubery to weaken Chad? The situation was far more complex than she had imagined.
Trying to sound reassuring, she said, "Suri, don't worry. Hubery is not the same person he was. He's incredibly strong now. It's not easy for anyone to hurt him."
"Not easy? Do you know what the doctor said? He told me that if Hubery had been brought in a moment later, he would have died!" Suri's voice was strained, her breathing ragged. Evadne rushed to her side, patting her back until she calmed down. "Evadne… I just got him back. If I lose him again… I don't want to live."
"That won't happen, Suri. This time, I will bring Hubery home safely."
Just then, Suri’s phone vibrated. She looked down at the screen, where a small red dot was blinking on a map, moving south.
"Suri, what is that?" Evadne asked, surprised.
Suri clutched the phone, her knuckles white. "While he was unconscious, I installed a tracking app on his phone. Elmsworth is so big… it was the only way I could think of to find him again."
Evadne took a sharp breath. The women in Emeric's life were certainly not to be trifled with.
