"Thaddeus led a strike team in to extract the hostages, but they were heavily outgunned. Half his squad was wiped out, and he took shrapnel to his left leg. He was bleeding out. Just when he thought it was over, this girl—Paloma—appeared out of nowhere. She risked her own life and dragged him out of that hellhole entirely on her own."

Derek's eyes were red now, overwhelmed by the memory. "Thaddeus told me he was fading fast from blood loss, and because she was wearing heavy surgical gear, he never got a clear look at her face. But he never forgot her. Not for a single day. He has been quietly searching for the woman who saved his life for years, but he always hit a dead end.
