His Ex-Wife Is A Billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) novel Chapter 1145

“John told Arnold he was framed, and now Alexia has spirited him away. Could John’s wrongful conviction have been Alexia’s doing in the first place?” Jason’s mind kicked into gear, spurred by Evadne’s insight. “She was afraid John would expose her, so she used her position as a prison doctor to work with her contacts inside and get him out of there in a hurry!”

Evadne’s lips curved in an approving smile. “If she didn’t have a guilty conscience, why would she take such a huge risk? But I don’t think this was her idea. In my eyes, she’s just someone’s pawn.”

Jason’s eyes widened. “You mean… the mastermind is Chad?”

“It’s a strong possibility,” Evadne said, her eyes shining like stars. “We need to find John now. And if we can, we need to protect him. He’s going to be the key to uncovering the conspiracy Chad is hiding.”

“Ms. Evadne, I just checked. Alexia left over half an hour ago. She’s long gone, and she probably switched vehicles. How are we going to find them?”

Evadne paused for a moment, her eyes bright with determination. She picked up her phone and dialed Elvis.

“Evadne! Elvis misses you like crazy!” Elvis Waverley’s youthful voice chirped on the other end, practically bubbling with joy.

Evadne scoffed playfully. “Elvis, you’re not a lone wolf anymore. You’re a taken man. You should tone it down, even for your dear sister.”

“She’s not the petty type. She wouldn’t get jealous over something like this. She adores you more than I do!”

“Are you working abroad right now, Elvis?”

“Just wrapped up a case, nabbed two globally wanted spies. I’ve got a few days off, so I was about to head home.” The mention of Elsie Archer made Elvis’s voice light up, and he momentarily forgot Evadne’s own recent heartbreak. “What should I get for Ellie? She never lets me spoil her, and she’s not interested in any of that luxury stuff women usually like. I’m racking my brain here! I can’t go back empty-handed.”

Evadne gave a wry smile. “Elvis, it’s not that she doesn’t like those things. It’s that she’s so grateful just to be with you that she feels almost unworthy. She doesn’t dare ask for anything.”

Elvis’s breath hitched, and his voice grew husky. “Evadne… is that really true?”

Evadne blinked her vibrant eyes, a little surprised. “How so?”

“Before, when you called your brothers for help, you were always straight to the point. Now… you’re more considerate.”

“That’s because my brothers have their own lives now, their own families. I can’t keep acting like a little girl who needs constant attention. I have to be mindful of their partners’ feelings,” Evadne said with a light, airy smile. “Their families should be their priority. I just need to find a new way to be their sister.”

“Ms. Evadne…” Jason’s eyes welled up with a bittersweet sadness.

Once, she had been the center of her brothers’ world. Now, she was willingly stepping aside, letting them give that unique devotion to others.

A few minutes later, Elvis sent the surveillance footage from the prison and the back street to Evadne’s phone.
