His Ex-Wife Is A Billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) novel Chapter 1127

Evadne was still unconscious. Though exhausted, Emeric wanted to stay by his daughter’s side until she woke up. But his heart was a tangled mess of pain and grief, and he feared he would break down in front of his family. He slipped out onto the balcony alone, letting the harsh, cold wind whip at his face as he secretly wiped away a tear.

He had been a man of iron his entire life, and the moments he had shed tears were few and far between. It seemed that every single one had been for Evadne, or her mother.

“Mr. Ashbourne.”

A smooth, pleasant voice came from behind him.

Emeric quickly composed himself and turned around. Seeing it was Chad, his expression became warier, but he managed a polite nod. “Mr. Chad, your health isn’t good. The wind is strong out here. You should go back inside and rest.”

“Mr. Ashbourne, what happened yesterday was my brother’s fault. He went to Marlowe City to see a girl who is very important to him, and that’s why he missed his meeting with Ms. Evadne. He was out of line. On his behalf, I apologize.” Chad’s gaze was sincere, yet held an unprecedented fervor. “I’ve already arranged for the best specialists in the country to come and consult on Ms. Evadne’s case. Whether it’s her frostbite or any other issues, I will do everything in my power to ensure she makes a full recovery.”

“We appreciate the thought, Mr. Chad, but the Ashbourne family can afford to hire doctors. We won’t trouble you.” Emeric refused without hesitation, a faint, knowing smile touching his lips. “I’ve known Thaddeus for a long time, and this is the first I’ve heard of him traveling to another city for a girl. She must be incredibly important to him. A savior, perhaps, or a friend with whom he shares a life-and-death bond?”

Chad paused, about to speak, but Emeric cut him off. “The fact that he would cancel a meeting with my daughter to see this girl shows that he values more than just romance. He’s a man of character, of loyalty. If I were in his shoes, I would have made the same choice.”

Emeric watched as the color drained from Chad’s face, his smile unwavering. “Besides, I heard from Jason that Thaddeus did send Evadne a message about his change of plans and even tried to call her, but she never received them. As for her going up the mountain alone and getting into trouble… that was just her being stubborn and reckless again. Let this be a lesson to her. No one can indulge her unconditionally for her entire life.”

As he spoke, Emeric’s eyes reddened with a fresh wave of sorrow. *Who said no one?* The Thaddeus of the past had indulged her, unconditionally and without limits.

“So, you don’t need to apologize on your brother’s behalf. I know what kind of man he is. I don’t blame him.”

“Sir, Hans is waiting for you at the villa. He was shot in the shoulder, and the wound is quite serious. His car is totaled.” Alexia leaned close to his ear, her voice a low whisper. “From the looks of it, he and Thaddeus really did tear each other apart. It doesn’t seem like it was faked.”

A chill emanated from Chad, so cold that even Alexia couldn’t help but tense up.

“Brother.”

At the sound of Thaddeus’s deep voice, both of them froze and turned around. The two brothers’ eyes met, their gazes clashing like swords.

“There’s something I want to ask you,” Thaddeus said, his eyes sharp, showing no trace of his injuries. “No one knew about my plans with Evadne except for Gordon. How did *you* find out?”
