Yet, Shannon did and said nothing. Wasn't that enough to prove her stance?
If she were intent on saving them, she would've found a way to do it despite George's insistence to keep things discreet. That proved she simply didn't want to.
Marie couldn't help but feel disappointed in Shannon.
Regardless, now that the system had been dealt with, George would surely seek other capable mystic masters to save them even without Shannon's help. She was confident.
Listening to her analysis, Caleb vaguely felt something was off yet somehow was swayed by her. In summation, he just didn't know Shannon well enough.
Thinking how she had given up on him, he felt rather conflicted and disappointed. While they continued chatting, the door to the study suddenly swung open.
A head emerged behind the door, revealing Scott's face.
Scott scanned the room first and finally settled his gaze on the two dolls in the center display cabinet. He walked up to them with a sense of wonder. "Grandma, Cal, is that you?"
He gasped, opening the cabinet and grabbing a doll in each hand. Then, his large face nudged toward one of the dolls, examining it. "This silly-looking male doll must be him. Cal, can you hear me?"
He subsequently turned to the female doll. "Grandma, are you alright? Are you hungry? Thirsty? Do you feel uncomfortable being held like this?"
Scott muttered to himself, not caring whether he received any response. Marie and Caleb, initially eager to see him, now watered down their excitement upon hearing his yapping.
"I'm here to tell you that Shannon has just returned home. Ben seems to be fine—well, luckily, he is. Otherwise, Shannon might've not even returned by now."
The news of Shannon's arrival stirred excitement in Caleb, while Marie, despite her earlier indifference to Shannon's assistance, found herself unexpectedly excited.
Scott's words shattered their hopes next. "But don't be eager just yet because Shannon won't be able to release you guys anytime soon. It's not that she doesn't want to; she's just used up too much of her spiritual energy and needs rest now."
He pointed upstairs while saying that. Meanwhile, Caleb and Marie were at a loss for words.
Then they heard Scott continuing, "That said, I can understand if she's reluctant to help you. I'm not trying to criticize you, Grandma, and Cal, but you both haven't been exactly nice to her."
