"Whatever Vivian had said, it's wrong of you to assault a pregnant woman," Grace insisted.
Houston smirked. "But is it right to slander my wife's reputation?"
"Houston, don't get cocky. I'm calling the police to arrest you," Grace said, taking out her phone and dialing the emergency number.
Linda was stunned, worried that Houston might end up with a bad record at the police station, potentially ruining his future.
She was about to back down and try to protect Houston when he provocatively said, "Call the police? How long do you think it'll take for them to get here? Let me do it for you." He then took out his phone and called the police himself.
Grace was left speechless.
Both sides had dirt on each other, and eventually, Aaron stepped in to mediate. "Both sides were at fault today. I don't think it's necessary to take this to the police station and end up worse off. How about we all just go home and leave this matter behind?" he suggested.
Sam also defended Houston. "Sounds good."
But Vivian was in tears. "Mom, Dad, did I just get slapped for nothing?"
Houston sneered, "Not for nothing. You'll soon see the significance of that slap. If I don't sue you for defamation, my wife's grievances would be in vain."
Vivian glared at Houston, a mix of anger and frustration in her eyes.
"Houston, you're so protective of her. Aren't you afraid she'll rekindle her old flame with Ethan and leave you with nothing?"
Houston laughed coldly. "I married Rose knowing I'd give her everything I have... If she's well-off and I end up with nothing, so be it."
Vivian was left speechless.
Rose looked at Houston in astonishment, her heart pounding.
She retorted sharply to Vivian, "Vivian, stop trying to sow discord. Now that I'm married to Houston, I'll love and cherish him with all my heart. He protects me for a time, and I'll protect him for a lifetime."
Houston looked at Rose, his eyes filled with affection.
Soon, the police officers arrived. After getting a preliminary understanding of the situation, they asked Vivian to come to the station to give a statement.
Vivian pointed at Houston in surprise. "Why isn't he going?"
"It was you who disturbed the peace in the middle of the night. He's not the one at fault," the officer replied.
Vivian looked at the staff in disbelief. "But he hit me. I'm pregnant?"
"Is there any evidence?" The officer asked.
"We can testify," Grace and Aaron said.
"Family members cannot be witnesses."
Vivian was stunned.
"Without evidence, the accusation is invalid."
Who does she think she is dealing with? Am I someone to be trifled with?
