Goodbye, Mr. Ex: I've Remarried Mr. Right novel Chapter 1905

The underworld overseas was murky.

Marion refused to keep the Bernard family in dirty business. He spent years cleaning the house.

To outsiders, he was a kingpin, taking out only the worst of the worst.

"Those days were rough," Marion said, holding Debra close. "But they're behind me. What matters is every second with you."

He felt like his life now was borrowed. Even if hell waited, this time with Debra was worth it.

He pulled a cross from his pocket and continued, "For a while, I believed in God. Now? I believe we make our own fate."

Only Debra saw his soft side. She was his everything.

He placed the cross in her hand. "Ever regret marrying a guy like me?"

"Dumb question." Debra pinched his nose. "Marrying you was the best call I ever made."

No one else would stand by her side so adamantly. After 20 years, they were part of each other. He was her love and family. They'd grow old together and find each other in the next life.

The sun set as they lay on the beach. Waves crashed like they had 20 years ago.

Now they were just an old couple who'd once been legends.

"Marion," Debra said, leaning on his shoulder. "I've had a happy life."

To Marion, she was still the radiant woman he'd always known, unchanged by time.

He stroked her hair. "Babe, I'm heading to the other side first. Take your time getting there. You've bossed me around forever. Let me have a little alone time, yeah?"

He wanted her to live long but feared she'd be lonely.
