Goodbye, Mr. Ex: I've Remarried Mr. Right novel Chapter 1906

From their wedding day, Marion had been making a video diary. He feared leaving Debra first.

Like most middle-aged guys, he was clueless about tech. He hated phones, had no curiosity about the world, and only had Debra's number saved.

At 26, Marion fell for Debra.

He didn't know how to win her over, so he fumbled through it. To him, love meant getting her attention, even just a little.

He'd trail her at Arcane Academy, watching her during the day. At night, he continued to handle dirty deals.

He always felt unworthy of her light. Yet sometimes, he thought they were two sides of the same coin.

At 28, he married her. The night before, he sat on their couch, facing a camera.

"Debra, it's the night before our wedding. I haven't slept," he said. "Never thought I'd get married. You're the only woman I've ever loved. Tomorrow, you will be my wife. I'll spend my life taking care of you. If I'm gone one day, I hope these tapes keep you company."

At 38, he said, "Babe, ten years married, and I love you just as much."

"That fool," Debra said, laughing softly. "He never said all these words to my face. I'd love to let him have his alone time, but I'm too selfish. I'm going with him and keeping him in line."

Only she could keep Marion in check.

The day before his funeral, Debra passed quietly.

In a haze, Marion appeared as he had when they first met. He smiled and reached out his hand.
