Goodbye, Mr. Ex: I've Remarried Mr. Right novel Chapter 1740

"I..." Debra had no comeback.

That wasn't what she meant. She vaguely remembered some nagging question in her head, but she couldn't pin it down.

"You burning up or something?" Jordan reached for her forehead.

She shot up, dodging like he'd zapped her.

The room fell dead silent.

She braced for a scolding, but Jordan just whacked her on the head. "Dodged well, but not quick enough."

Instead of digging into her reaction, he led her out of the classroom.

The familiar campus hit her hard. Two voices and two sets of memories were in her head.

One said this place was pure joy. The other screamed cold, cruel vibes.

One memory painted Arcane Academy as warm and cozy. The other did wall-to-wall bullying.

The split tore at her brain.

"Are you just letting the bracelet thing slide?" Jordan chattered on. "Andrew gave you that, and you've always treasured it."

He popped open his car in the garage. Debra slid into the passenger seat.

Familiar car, familiar incense, and familiar seat. There was also a bear pillow Jordan kept just for her.

He hopped in, cranked the seat heater, fixed her seatbelt, and laid out a spread of snacks and coffee.

She grabbed it like always, munching away.

This was her life. Like a fairy-tale princess, she was drowning in everyone's love.

Still, she felt empty in her heart, like a chunk of memory was missing. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't recall it.
