Fermin stepped in front of Lara, pressing the barrel of his gun under her chin.
"Do I need to spell it out for you? Conrad is not a core member of the Illuminati. You are."
She might have fooled the world with her perfect disguise, but she couldn't fool him, who was also deeply entrenched in the Illuminati.
"I remember seeing you about ten years ago," Fermin said, tapping the side of her face with the gun. "I never forget a face. You're that old man's goddaughter, known as an expert in disguise. Now that your cover's blown, take a guess. What will happen next?"
Lara's innocent look disappeared, replaced by an insidious smirk.
"You're making a grave mistake by messing with me," she murmured.
Fermin didn't flinch. He pressed the gun against her chest. "Don't test my patience here. I've already killed plenty of people today. One more won't make a difference."
"If you kill me, the Illuminati won't let you go. You know what happens to people on their hit list," Lara sneered. "Your family is powerful, but its time is running out. Nothing lasts forever. Before you pull that trigger, think about your family and your future. You've struggled for so long. Are you really willing to lose it all?"
For the first time, Fermin's grip on the gun wavered.
Lara noticed instantly. Her hand shot out, guiding his gun away from her and toward those servants standing across the room.
Moments later, silence fell over the house. Smoke curled from the barrel of Fermin's gun.
Lara's smile widened. "Remember that the Illuminati controls the fate of your family. No matter what the future holds, right now, you belong to us. I'll forgive everything you did today, and so will our master. Just don't do it again."
She leaned in close and whispered, "I'll return Liza to you later, but you'll take all of this with you. And kill every witness."
His eyes flickered, and she added, "Only we can help you and protect you. And if you betray us, we will destroy you."
