From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 20

His eyes were calm and steady, unreadable, as he simply nodded at her.

Olivia Bennett lowered her gaze, picked up the men’s wedding band, and slowly slid it onto his finger.

She had been with Daniel Gill for three years, and she’d dreamed, more than once, of slipping a ring onto his hand at their wedding. She’d pictured it so many times in her head.

Now the scene was finally real—except the man standing opposite her wasn’t the one she used to imagine.

“Oh my gosh, that’s honestly perfect!” the saleswoman’s excited voice snapped Olivia back to the present.

Blinking, Olivia clung to Ethan Carter’s hand, turning it over to look again.

It really was a perfect fit—like the ring had been custom-made for them both. Anyone would think the jeweler had measured their hands together before making it.

It could be a coincidence for one person, but for both? That was a little too much of a coincidence.

Maybe… was this fate?

“Do you like it?” Ethan Carter’s deep, smooth voice rumbled close to her ear.

Because she was putting the ring on, they were standing so close that Olivia could actually hear him breathing. Her cheeks suddenly felt warm. She edged back a little, nodding.

The style was exactly what she liked, and the fit—well, it couldn’t be better. She doubted she’d find anything more perfect, even if she kept looking.

“This is the one,” Ethan said decisively, glancing at the saleswoman.

“This ring is two and a half million dollars, Mr. Carter. Are you sure you want this one?” The saleswoman’s eyes sparkled with joy, though she double-checked just to be sure.

Other customers had tried this ring before. Some couldn’t get the size right, and those who could usually changed their minds after hearing the price.

Olivia and Ethan both looked like they came from money—especially Ethan, who had an effortless, old-money grace about him. That was why the saleswoman had taken the chance to recommend this particular ring.

She’d tried her luck, hoping for a big commission. But until the card was swiped, you could never be sure.
