Ethan Carter noticed how serious she looked and, after thinking it over, decided not to push any further.
She still didn’t fully trust or rely on him. In fact, she always kept a polite, comfortable distance between them.
Well, if that’s how it is, there was no need to force anything. He’d just wait a while and help her get settled in little by little.
“Just let me know when you want to pick up your things,” he said.
Olivia Bennett blinked and nodded.
She had no problem with that. Moving stuff was heavy work, and she was in no mood to risk hurting the baby over it.
Ethan opened the passenger door for her. “There’s one more thing we need to buy.”
Olivia gave him a puzzled look, tilting her head as if to ask, but Ethan had already shut her door and walked around to the driver’s side.
Once he slid into his seat, Olivia finally voiced her curiosity. “What else do we need to buy?”
“You’ll see when we get there,” he replied, a rare little smirk playing at his lips.
Olivia pursed her lips, then suddenly remembered something and quickly added, “You didn’t arrange anything crazy ahead of time, did you?”
After the attention-grabbing breakfast scene earlier, she was a little traumatized.
Ethan gave a wry smile. “...Nope.”
The breakfast thing was just because he was worried she’d be hungry and wanted her to eat something healthy. He’d called ahead, sure, but it wasn’t like he planned every outing to be that over-the-top.
Olivia sighed in relief and patted her chest.
It wasn’t until she saw the glittering engagement rings displayed in the glass cases at Carey & Sons Jewelers that she finally realized what Ethan had in mind.
“Welcome! Mr. Carter, Miss—are you looking for wedding bands today?” The saleswoman greeted them with a bright, practiced smile. “These are our latest styles. Feel free to take a look.”
