"Did you know that she got someone to kidnap me yesterday?" Lindsey asked as she looked at Zayn.
Lindsey originally only wanted to ask if Zayn knew about it even though she was almost certain that he did, but once she opened her mouth, it sounded like she was questioning him with a little grievance.
She clearly did not feel aggrieved before.
Since she already blurted it out, she could not take it back. Lindsey turned her head away and did not want to show her vulnerability as she waited for Zayn’s answer.
Zayn was silent for a while and said, “Yeah, I know. This matter is still suspicious, so you should stay out of it. I’ll get someone to investigate.”
Lindsey looked at him again. Her eyebrows were knitted, but her eyes were mocking. "Zayn Guggenheim, you want me to stay out of it? Do you know where they were taking me to and what they were going to do with me? If I hadn't escaped, I probably wouldn't be able to stand here and talk to you right now, yet you're telling me to stay out of it?!"
Zayn knew that Lindsey would get mad when he said this, but he did not expect her to be this angry. She seemed to turn cold and merciless as she stabbed him with her words.
"Can you not be so agitated?" Zayn also frowned at Lindsey. There were many things that he could not tell her, but he did not want to get in a fight with her every time they talked.
Lindsey looked at him with disappointment, but she did not know what exactly she was disappointed about. "You don’t have the right to tell me what to do!"
She took a deep breath and slowly exhaled to calm herself. "People say that one should always listen to the meaning behind the words, not just the words that were said. Often, that underlying meaning is the other party's true thoughts. You want me to stay out of it, and then what, will you manage it? Will you be able to give me an explanation or hold Ann accountable? Zayn Guggenheim, this is my life, not yours! I don't blame you for abandoning me like I'm nothing to you, but please don't tell me to do anything!"
After saying that, Lindsey did not want to listen to Zayn anymore. She turned around, went into the apartment, and slammed the door shut. The next time she saw Zayn, she should just pretend that she did not see him.
Dezi looked at Lindsey wide-eyed and was somewhat shocked by the look on Lindsey's face.
Lindsey regained her composure and barely squeezed out a smile. "Are you sleepy? Mommy will tuck you into bed, okay?"
Dezi nodded and looked at his mother’s hand that was on her side. It was trembling. Mommy’s hand would only shake when she was very, very angry.
That night, the already well-behaved Dezi was even more obedient. He laid down in bed and fell asleep without Lindsey reading him a bedtime story. Lindsey, on the other hand, tossed and turned all night. She was unable to sleep.
After falling asleep with difficulty, she had several depressing dreams in a row.
However, Lindsey could not remember what she dreamed of after she woke up, but that feeling of despair and sorrow at the bottom of her heart was still there.
Paired with the drizzle outside, this feeling made Lindsey very uncomfortable.
With the lack of sleep and her depressed mood, Lindsey made several small mistakes in her usual easy tasks, but fortunately, they did not cause any serious problems.
She was in a really bad state. Lindsey rubbed her brow and thought that Ann's matter was really affecting her.
If she did not solve this matter, Lindsey felt that she could not work properly.
At lunchtime, Lindsey called Soren.
Outside the pantry, she could see the first rain of early spring in Atlantic City. The sky was overcast and dreary. It seemed like the sky was falling and it felt very oppressive.
Lindsey waited for the call to connect and only looked at it for a few seconds before withdrawing her eyes.
There was nothing to see.
Once the call was connected, Lindsey was straightforward and said, “I want to see the driver that kidnapped me that day.”
There was silence over the phone for a moment. Soren was probably hesitating.
Soren pushed him. "Move!" Lindsey saw them and waved at Soren.
Lindsey was standing there all alone and was obviously trying to confront his fiancee, but Zayn just felt his heart aching.
If possible, he really hoped that the woman in the ward could die right now. Once they walked inside, Zayn finally withdrew his gaze.
Lindsey was walking in front, while Soren, that driver, and another young man who was probably Soren’s subordinate, followed behind her.
When they arrived at the door of Ann's ward, Soren stopped. "I won't go in."
It was awkward for him to be there with his identity. Although he was very worried about Lindsey, it was still not appropriate for him to go inside.
"Mm." Lindsey nodded her head.
Soren said uneasily, "Don't close the door and call me if anything happens."
Lindsey nodded again. Soren then pushed the man in front of him and said with a cold and stern voice, "Go in."
The man reached out to hold the door handle and slowly opened the door. Ann thought it was a doctor or a nurse and yelled with her shrill voice, "Didn't I say not to bother me?"
Once Ann turned around, she saw a wretched-looking man standing in front of her with Lindsey Juhl...
‘How did she get here?’
Ann reached out and covered her gauze-wrapped leg with the quilt. Her eyebrows were raised as she looked at Lindsey. "What are you doing here?!"
