"What the f*ck are they all doing?! These are the people you hired. They’re so easily distracted and cheated away. Is this your ability to choose subordinates? I think you’d better resign as the President of Hemera because sooner or later, Hemera’s gonna go bankrupt with an idiot like you as the boss!"
The man's low voice mixed with anger sounded vaguely in the darkness.
Lindsey's eyelashes flickered. Once her consciousness returned, every cell in her body was screaming in pain.
"Zayn Guggenheim! That’s enough!" This was Shaun's voice. It was smooth and elegant, but it was also laced with anger.
After he said that, the argument outside stopped for a moment. Then, there was a loud thud from something heavy hitting the ground.
"Crazy bastard!" It was still Shaun's voice.
Lindsey's blurred consciousness returned after hearing that loud sound. The white light blinded her eyes.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" She looked around her. The ward was lit, but it was empty.
Lindsey moved her fingers and tried to sit up, only to find a small body that was attached to her when she moved.
Dezi had fallen asleep beside her at some point. She could still see the tear marks on his face that had been gently wiped away so they were not so obvious, but his eyes were still swollen.
Lindsey could not help but touch his face gently. The sleepy little boy wrinkled his nose and looked so adorable.
Her other arm felt heavy like it was being restrained. There was also a lingering pain.
Lindsey turned to look at it only to find that her arm was in a cast. It was probably fractured. No wonder it hurt so much.
She wanted to sit up. The strength of one hand was actually enough, but it hurt to move her body, so her whole face scrunched up.
The sound outside was intermittent. Before she could get up, the closed door of the ward was suddenly pushed open.
Lindsey stopped moving and looked at the person who just came in. She blinked and said, "Zayn..."
Her voice was soft and had a nasal tone. She sounded like a whiny girl that was aggrieved.
The hidden anxiety on the man's face disappeared in a moment and returned to his usual indifference. "You’re awake?"
Zayn did not think that Lindsey would be awake so soon and felt a little frustrated. He intended to check on Lindsey and leave, but coincidentally, she woke up.
He told himself to be sensible, but his deep eyes could not help but fall on Lindsey's face.
Zayn stood in the doorway and did not move. He watched as Lindsey looked more aggrieved, then it turned into confusion and other emotions he could not define.
"The doctor said you have a fracture in your right forearm and multiple bruises on your body. The previous injury on your waist didn't heal well and recurred this time," Zayn said as he walked to the hospital bed. He looked down at Dezi and added, "The child is fine. He’s just frightened."
Lindsey froze and looked at him, taking in the indifference on his face and the coldness in his eyes. Her chest ached.
"This is a serious matter, so the police are involved. It's good you woke up. I'll leave first." Zayn nodded at Lindsey politely like a stranger, then he turned around and walked towards the door.
Sieben looked at Zayn and pouted. "Why don't you come home? Lindsey’s waiting for you to come home."
Zayn fixed his gaze on Sieben's face for a long time before he nodded and said, "Protect them."
Sieben looked like a child with a pure and harmless gaze, but Zayn did not forget that the three men in the parking lot were all subjugated by Sieben alone. One of them was paraplegic and the remaining two were in a coma at the moment. No one knew how she did this.
Zayn looked at Sieben, who was still a child in their eyes. Every time she encountered any danger, Sieben would become a different person.
Did this mean that Sieben's memories did not disappear, but were just hidden and would only be revealed at certain times?
However, even in that situation, although Sieben had her skills, her intellect did not seem to have recovered.
Zayn had many speculations, but he did not say it to Sieben and gestured for her to go in and see Lindsey before he turned to leave.
When Shaun came out of Yvette’s ward and went to see Lindsey. He only saw Sieben and Dezi there. He frowned and asked, “Where’s Zayn?”
Lindsey was having some chicken soup that Quentin just bought for her. She swallowed a mouthful with difficulty and looked at him as she said with little emotion, "He left. Brother, how’s Yvette?"
"That bastard!" Shaun cursed and was extremely annoyed with Zayn.
Lindsey looked at him and realized that Shaun had two black eyes. The person who hit him purposely made it quite symmetrical.
She was initially in a bad mood, but when she saw Shaun like this, she laughed and pointed at him. "Brother, who beat you up?"
