"I'm just saying...just in case..." Lindsey mumbled. She could never bring herself to tell such a Zayn what she was hiding.
Zayn pressed Lindsey’s arm over her head. His eyes were deep and dark as he said, “That won’t happen. Lindsey, if it really comes down to it that I have to choose only one of you, I’ll choose you. If anything ever happens to you, I wouldn’t want this child either.”
Lindsey widened her eyes in shock. “What nonsense is that?!”
Zayn did not want to hear what she wanted to say and directly kissed her. The rest of her words dissipated between their lips and teeth.
"I won’t ever let that happen."
Lindsey’s heart was beating violently. She could not tell whether it was from his kiss or his words. Or perhaps it was her wavering heart that was constantly being tormented by both sides.
After the kiss, the two of them were panting, especially Zayn, who suddenly touched Lindsey's belly looking frustrated as he said, "Why is he growing so slowly?"
Lindsey calmed her breathing. She had also felt Zayn's reaction from a certain body part and rolled her eyes at him.
Since she was pregnant, Lindsey slept early every night, so Zayn followed her, and this night was no exception.
The two of them went to bed early and Zayn held Lindsey tightly in his arms.
It was silent before dawn, but Lindsey suddenly woke up from her sleep and sat up violently.
"Don't..." She nearly screamed, then immediately, she thought of something and stopped.
Lindsey looked at the man beside her. The two of them were still holding hands. She could not see anything clearly in the darkness, but Lindsey's heart, which was beating wildly, finally calmed down.
The man’s large hand moved slightly because of her movement. He then slapped the light switch and the bright lights blinded her momentarily.
Lindsey closed her eyes in discomfort. There was even a tear from the corner of her eyes perhaps because of the blinding lights.
She had woken Zayn. She pursed her lips as her eyes still hurt. “Did I wake you?”
Zayn sat up and pulled Lindsey into his arms. His eyes were clear and did not look like he had been suddenly awakened. He saw the sweat on Lindsey’s forehead and wiped it for her. His eyes were deep, but his expression was gentle as he coaxed her. “Did you have a nightmare? What was it about? Tell me.”
In fact, Zayn had already woken up before Lindsey was awoken.
Lindsey was probably unaware that she had been shouting in her sleep. "No, don't kill him! Don't kill her either! I beg you!”
This was not the first time she had done this.
Zayn's heart tightened. The fear in the eyes of the person in his arms did not dissipate. She only shook her head and said, "It’s just a normal nightmare. I was probably overthinking because of the pregnancy."
After she said that, Lindsey laughed at herself. Her lips were frighteningly pale under the light as she said, “I think I’ve been having nightmares quite often lately.”
Zayn had been trying to get Lindsey to open up to him, but looking at the situation, Lindsey still was not ready to tell him the truth.
"It's very often." Zayn smoothed her hair to the back of her head. "Tell me about it, please?"
His voice was low and gentle. Lindsey looked at him and suddenly seemed to be coaxed into saying softly, "It was a very bad dream. I dreamed of...something horrible."
She did not say what would happen to the one that was not chosen, but Zayn could guess from the words she shouted in her sleep.
"Zayn, how should I choose?" Lindsey’s eyes were somewhat hollow and permeated a confused fear.
Zayn's heart tightened. He squeezed her hand and said, "Don’t choose. The child is ours, so no one can take him away. Also, your parents gave birth to you, so you can’t just watch them get hurt."
"Right..." Lindsey echoed. Her voice choked as she said, “I can’t let go of the child, but I also can’t bear to see them in trouble. Although...although they gave birth to me, they abandoned me as soon as I was born...but I’m still indebted to them.”
Zayn cupped her cheeks and kissed her lightly. “If you don’t know which to choose, just choose them all. You’re my wife and have the right to get everything you want. Even if you don’t, I’ll help you grab it. Do you trust me?"
The determination in the man's eyes was like an unchanging mountain, which gave Lindsey the greatest courage and reliance. Lindsey's nose tingled and she nodded incessantly like a child.
"Why are you getting weepy?" Zayn reached out and touched the tip of her nose.
He had his back to the light, so she could not see his expression clearly. His tone was still gentle, but his aura felt different.
Lindsey held his hand, pretending to be relaxed as she said, "You shouldn't take it seriously, Zayn. It's just a dream."
"Yeah, it's just a dream, so you shouldn't take it to heart either." Zayn soothed her emotions and pretended to ask inadvertently, "Why did you suddenly dream about your real parents?"
Lindsey stopped breathing for a short moment and only after a while did she say, "Maybe I dreamed about it because we talked about it a few days ago."
"Mm." Zayn quickly said, "They disappeared for so long, so maybe they’re no longer here. Don't think about it anymore. Do you want to sleep a little longer?"
