After Zayn said that, he suddenly laughed again. When he laughed, his eyes would not narrow into a line like others. Instead, it would curve into a crescent shape, like the smiley face emoji. His face would also look wider from his broad smile.
Lindsey also laughed along with him.
It was a bright and clear day, and they were having a perfect moment.
Zayn had to go into the office in the afternoon. Before leaving, he wanted to arrange every minute of Lindsey's time during the hours he was gone.
"First, go for a walk for half an hour, then take a nap. You can eat a snack at 4:00 pm, but not too much. Aunt Wendy, watch her intake."
Zayn had a serious face. Even Mrs. Wendy could not help but laugh. "Young Master, you’re overly anxious. Don’t worry."
He did not realize it himself as he thought this was all within reason. He was just worried that something might happen to Lindsey, so he took care of her as if she was a child.
Lindsey casually waved her hands and said, “Just go already. Don’t worry about me.”
During this time, Zayn had poured all his attention on Lindsey that there were many backlogs at the company. No matter how capable Quentin and Soren were, they could not directly take over Zayn's job.
The man who was as gentle as a cat in front of Lindsey returned to his cold and unfeeling self in front of outsiders.
From the moment Zayn arrived at the office building and while walking towards his office, three managers had already reported their department’s progress. Zayn just listened and did not express an opinion.
Once he entered his office, he dismissed the crowd. He then listened to Quentin’s more specific reports before giving his ideas. Each of his opinions was straight to the point.
Quentin could see that Zayn was in a good mood and breathed a sigh of relief. Zayn in a good mood only meant that his tolerance was slightly higher and he would not give any strange orders.
"How’re things on Soren's side recently?" After settling the company’s matters, Zayn looked at the time. It seemed like he had not heard from Soren in two days.
"That person’s well protected. Soren said he has some new findings. President, Liam Wilford's very meticulous. Even if he’s just here for a short time, he’s very thorough in handling things. We can’t make him fall if we go the conventional way."
Quentin and Soren grew up alongside Zayn, so they were his closest confidants and were equivalent to his friends.
Even though they did not have proof that Liam was involved in Lindsey's accident, they were certain that it was his doing.
"Since the conventional way doesn't work, then let's go unconventional." Zayn's voice was light as he continued, "Arrange an appointment with Liam Wilford. I want to speak with him."
"Okay."
"Also, if there’s nothing in Germany, just forget it." Zayn instructed and continued, "Get Soren to move faster. If he can’t find anything, then ask him to come back as soon as possible. I always feel a little uneasy without him at the mansion."
Zayn clasped his chin, looking thoughtful.
Quentin was startled by his words. Zayn rarely expressed his emotions or feelings so frankly. This was the first time Quentin heard the word, "uneasy", coming from Zayn.
"President..." Quentin felt a little worried about Zayn meeting Liam.
"It's fine. I know what I’m doing. Get the appointment with Liam first, then make some arrangements for me. I want to take Lindsey to Dominica in a few days." Zayn was firm as he said this.
Her hand was well-defined, slender, and fair. It was perfect, like a work of art, and not a single flaw could be seen. Now, there was an ugly scar that might not fade for the rest of her life.
Lindsey smiled and continued, "But luckily, it's relatively small."
The scab had fallen off, revealing the soft pink scar inside. Zayn looked at the wound and his eyes sank.
"Zayn." Lindsey was in Zayn's arms. She looked up at the man's chin from below.
Zayn kept rubbing the spot on her hand and responded casually, "Hmm?"
Lindsey rolled over and changed her position. "What if...and I mean, if..."
Seeing that she spoke so hesitantly, the man looked at her squarely. "What do you mean, if?"
"If...you were left alone with our child, you both will also be able to live well, right?" Lindsey avoided Zayn's gaze and looked at their intertwined fingers.
In the next second, the man reached out to hold her chin. The tenderness on his face dissipated and he even looked a little terrifying as he said, "Lindsey, what do you mean by this?"
Lindsey looked into his eyes and was sucked in. She froze for a moment and suddenly revealed a smile. "I'm joking. You know that I'm not in the best of health. In case something happens..."
Her words were rudely interrupted by the man, "Nothing will happen."
