Forced Into Marriage: My Husband’s Too Mean novel Chapter 216

Liam cleaned up his usually unruly style because, with Old Master Guggenheim’s status and seniority, even he had to be respectful.

The Wilford siblings looked quiet for the first time in front of Lindsey and Zayn. After they paid their respects, the maid was about to show them to the hall when Liam Wilford suddenly stopped and glanced at Lindsey. He then looked at Zayn and slowly hooked his lips into a smile.

The meaning of this smile was unknown and fleeting, which made Zayn’s eyes move slightly. Allie then followed and walked in front of Zayn. "My condolences."

Zayn nodded slightly and no longer looked at the Wilford siblings.

Today was the last day of the funeral service. After Liam and the others left, no one else came in for the visitation. Zayn was worried about Lindsey's condition and had someone bring her to the room for a rest first.

"Leave the rest to me." Zayn pursed his lips as he helped Lindsey tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. "Go eat something. I'll join you later."

He sent Lindsey to the door and met Yvette’s gaze. She should have already left, but she was standing in the doorway, looking at them wide-eyed.

"Why didn't you take a seat?" Lindsey saw her and asked. She had gotten to know Yvette since last time.

Yvette looked a bit hesitant. She bit her lower lip. Her eyes still red as she pinched the hem of her black jacket. She lowered her head and did not dare to look at the faces of the two people in front of her as she said quickly, "Lindsey, Mr. Guggenheim, I’m sorry. I didn't mean to lie to you. Lindsey wasn’t having an abortion that day. She just fainted. The doctor was just doing a checkup. I only lied because I was too angry at Mr. Guggenheim for hurting Shaun."

By the end of it, Yvette’s voice cracked and sounded like she was crying. She had spent all these days feeling guilty about her lie.

"I'm really sorry. My brother’s sending me to study abroad, so I don't know when I'll see you guys next time if I don't tell you now."

After saying that, Yvette finally looked up and said, "Lindsey, you have to give birth to the baby. I’ll visit you guys when I come back."

"When are you planning to leave? Why haven’t I heard of this?" A man's gentle but puzzled voice suddenly came from behind her.

Yvette turned her head and saw Shaun slowly walking their way.

She suddenly forced back all the tears in her eyes. "Shau...Mr. Juhl, it’s a last-minute decision."

After saying that, she looked at Lindsey and said, "I'll go first. My brother will get mad if I stay too long." She then nodded at Zayn and ran away.

Shaun's gaze unconsciously followed Yvette, but the girl did not turn around until she was out of his sight. His eyebrows furrowed.

Neither Zayn nor Lindsey noticed the difference in his attitude, Zayn's gaze fell on Lindsey. His dark eyes were deep. "So, it's all fake?"

"Zayn, I..."

Her unexpressed words were quickly interrupted by the man. "Whether it’s true or not, it's all in the past."

Zayn was surely curious about why Lindsey’s first reaction after finding out she was pregnant was not to tell him and left alone instead, but all the nebulous suspicions and doubts were no match for the satisfaction and gratitude he felt at that moment when he held this person in his arms.

He was glad that she was still right next to him, where he could just reach out and hold her at any moment. He was also grateful for the chance to start over again.

All those that Zayn was curious about would be made known to him sooner or later anyway.
