"Grandpa..." Lindsey cried and leaned on the bedside. "I promise. Just get better. You haven’t met our baby yet, so just wait a little longer, okay?"
If Grandpa was gone, what would happen to Zayn?
The old man was relieved and the seriousness on his face faded as he revealed a kind smile. "Okay, don't cry. It's time for me to go. Grandpa has lived long enough and it's time for me to accompany Grandma. I’m not even sure if she still remembers me." After saying that, the old man suddenly laughed like a child as he recalled an ancient memory.
That smile gradually solidified and his hands that held them abruptly lost all strength. Quentin and Soren arrived just in time and the old man only managed to say, "You two should hurry up and start a family. Don't stay single forever." After that, he completely ran out of breath.
Just like that, the old man shut his eyes forever.
"Grandpa..."
"Old Master..."
The entire ward was in a mess for a while.
Lindsey felt that before the old man's hand fell to the side, Zayn grabbed it with both hands along with Lindsey's hand. He used so much strength that Lindsey felt a little pain.
"Zayn..." Lindsey looked at the man by her side. His head hung low and his jaw was taut. He was clutching the old man's hand that was covered with age spots and wrinkles, as if he was holding onto a past that could never be revisited.
For the first time, Zayn looked so helpless, like a lost child who could not find his way home.
"Grandpa..." Zayn's lips trembled and only repeated this over and over again.
One of Lindsey’s hands was held tightly by Zayn. Tears gushed out of her eyes uncontrollably and she reached out to hug Zayn with her free hand. "Zayn, don’t do this. Zayn..."
However, the man she was hugging lost his sanity and just stood there with his body slightly bent, calling out to the person that could no longer respond to him.
The bedside was instantly crowded with people. Lindsey was hugging Zayn. Quentin's usually playful face looked extremely somber. Before he spoke, his tears fell first. "Old Master..."
Soren’s somewhat swarthy face and scorching eyes stared into the void. He suddenly whispered, "Grandpa, you fed me and you’re a good person. I’ll follow you."
That was the first thing Soren said to the old man back then.
Two streams of hot tears fell down his cheeks to the shiny floor, but he could never get the chance to see the person in front of him open his eyes again.
The old man's hair was white as he laid there lifeless. His once strong and tall body was reduced to a thin, frail frame that could not be stretched out and was slightly curled into a somewhat stiff position.
Lindsey felt the man in her arms shaking. After a long time, his hand suddenly turned cold and he knelt on the ground as if all his strength had been drained from his body.
She held him tightly and could hear him suppress his whimpers.
The doctor said that the old man's time had come. The last time the old man accidentally fell and caused irreversible damage to his body, it was already very difficult to rescue him. Back then, the old man himself held onto his life and pulled through by himself.
This time, nothing happened and he was just taking a regular afternoon nap.
Knowing that Lindsey was pregnant, that their tiny family was about to become a more solid triangle and their feelings seemed to become more stable, Zayn would not be so lonely anymore.
