Forced Into Marriage: My Husband’s Too Mean novel Chapter 217

"Mom, I’ll go back when I have time. What are you guys doing here today? It’s Old Master Guggenheim's funeral today." Shaun's tightly furrowed brow did not relax because of Stephanie's words.

After hearing Shaun’s words, Stephanie raised her slender eyebrows and looked a little mean as she said, "The Old Master just passed away, so as in-laws, we should come to pay our respects. What else do you think I'm doing here?"

"Although Lindsey’s adopted, we’ve raised her for more than a decade. After marrying into the Guggenheim family for so long, they didn’t help us when we went bankrupt and even made matters worse. Even if people are unkind to us, we can’t stoop to their level. Now that the Old Master died, it’s only right for us to pay our respects."

She said this with great righteousness, but she was actually trying to blame the Guggenheim family for being unkind.

There was an uproar amongst other guests. Was the Guggenheim family involved in the Juhls’ bankruptcy?

Most of the guests saw Lindsey before. They were amazed by her looks and how much of a good match she was to Zayn, but they did not know much about Lindsey's background. They certainly did not expect it to be revealed by Stephanie Lindt at Old Master Guggenheim's funeral.

This was not only a slap in Lindsey's face, but also an embarrassment to the Guggenheim family.

"Mrs. Juhl, your original scheme was to exchange the daughter you’ve raised for more than a decade for generations of wealth. Once you notice that this plan isn’t working, you decide to extort and blackmail your daughter. This is your so-called kindness. If that’s the case, then I’ve really learned something today."

Zayn slowly paced in front of Stephanie and Henry. There was no expression on his face, but Stephanie saw his eyes and felt inexplicably scared.

She took a step back. Once half of her body was blocked by Henry, she then regained her confidence.

"I raised her for ten years and married her to the Guggenheim family. What's wrong with asking her for money? How did this become extortion?" Stephanie shouted, "I came to mourn the Old Master today but I’m not even allowed to enter the door? Is this the way the Guggenheims treat their guests?"

"If you’re a guest, we will surely welcome you." Zayn's face turned extremely gloomy. "But we don’t welcome guests like you who’d ask their daughter for tens of millions of dollars so simply. Soren, send them away."

Soren came out from the corner and stood behind Zayn at some point. When he heard Zayn’s command, he stepped forward and extended his hand politely to Stephanie and Henry. "This way, please."

He had a ruthless and decisive aura, which made Stephanie's heart tremble. Even Henry was moved.

Stephanie suppressed her fear and looked around. Suddenly, she shouted, "Is this how the Guggenheims treat their guests? My daughter married into your family! How can you do this to me..."

She shouted as she ran around. She was running towards Lindsey. Zayn was not aware that Lindsey was still there, but Soren knew. His eyes turned ruthless as he stood in front of Stephanie and pushed her aside.

Stephanie was wearing a pair of black high heels. When Soren pushed her, she fell hard to the ground and everyone stared at her.

She felt very embarrassed being humiliated in front of so many people like this.

Stephanie was just pretending to make a scene earlier, but now, she was agitated and got up fiercely from the ground.

Her hair was scattered everywhere and her face was frighteningly white. The tear marks from crying earlier washed away the foundation on her face, leaving an ugly trail of melted makeup.

The decency and dignity she once had when she was an upper-class woman were long gone.
