Forced Into Marriage: My Husband’s Too Mean novel Chapter 143

"You’re fine now, so you can be discharged when you wake up." The nurse saw that Lindsey was awake and said as she pulled the IV needle out.

A slight tingling pain came from the back of her hand. Lindsey wiggled her fingers and her brain that had just woken up gradually became clearer. "Who sent me here?"

"I don't know. I wasn't on the night shift yesterday." The nurse packed up her things and prepared to leave.

Before she left, she picked up the warm glass of water that was placed on the bedside and helped Lindsey up. "Here, have some water."

"Thank you," Lindsey said incoherently as she lowered her head and took a few sips.

Lindsey was still wearing her clothes from yesterday. Only her coat was taken off and put aside. She got up, took her coat, and walked out of the ward. The corridor was also relatively quiet with only a few patients and nurses walking about.

She knew her condition best and knew this was not anything serious. It was just that she had not completely recovered from her previous accident and was still a little weak.

Lindsey walked out while she held her phone. There were a dozen missed calls on it.

All of them were from Allie Wilford.

Only then did Lindsey recall that she had left Allie behind last night.

When she called back, it was quickly answered and Allie's anxious voice sounded.

“Lindsey! Where have you been?”

“I’m fine. Where did you go last night? I didn't see you.” In fact, Lindsey could not think properly at that time. Her mind was in a complete mess.

"I ran into my brother and he brought me home. He said he would look for you." Allie sounded a little aggrieved as she said this, then added, "What’s going on between you and Zayn?"

Lindsey was most afraid of someone mentioning this name.

"Nothing. He can't die just yet," Lindsey said emotionlessly.

"My brother said that you were taken away by Zayn last night. He couldn't find you, so he came back. Zayn didn't do anything to you, right?"

"No," Lindsey replied. She actually did not remember this part at all. She added, "I fainted and woke up in the hospital."

"Oh, okay. That's good." Allie immediately said. Only after she said that did she realize that she sounded a little too happy, so she hastily added, "I saw how crazy he was at that time. I was really afraid he might’ve done something to you. What happened? Why were you in the hospital?"

"I'm okay." What excessive things had Zayn not done to her? This was really nothing compared to those times. “I think it’s just the after-effects from the previous surgery. I probably ran too fast last night.

"Oh right, Allie, can you please tell your brother that since he's back, I won't go to the office?" Lindsey was just a titular President anyway and she had little interest in holding such a high position.

"Oh, okay." Allie was a little surprised. "Then you should rest well and come back when you’re feeling better."

After the call ended, Lindsey walked out of the hospital. It was early in the morning, but there were a few food trucks parked near the hospital entrance selling a variety of breakfast sets. That area was quite packed.

Lindsey hailed a taxi. The driver yawned and asked her, "Where are you going?"

"The orphanage please."

The driver was stunned as he did not expect someone to go to an orphanage so early in the morning. However, he quickly adjusted his expression and reminded her to fasten her seat belt before driving off to the suburbs.

When the person following Lindsey reported her whereabouts to Zayn, Lindsey just got off at the entrance of the orphanage.

The early morning sunlight shone on the gate of the orphanage and it was still a little misty.
