Suddenly, there was a loud knock on the office door. Before Kingston could respond, Will barged in with several teammates right on his heels.
“Commander, reporting in!” Will snapped to attention, his voice so intense that the veins stood out on his neck. “We want leave too. We’re going with James.”
“That’s right. James pulled us out of hell more times than we can count.”
“Our sister-in-law’s in trouble. We can’t just sit here and do nothing.”
Kingston’s face darkened like a storm rolling in. “Ridiculous.” He slammed his palm on the desk, his presence so commanding that even these fearless special ops soldiers felt the pressure in the air.
“All of you want to go with him? Why don’t you just send out a press release and let every enemy know exactly where he is?”
“Do you plan on being his personal homing beacons?”
“Get back to your posts. Right now, your job is to protect the fire station and the Dragonscale base. Give James the cover he needs so he can focus on finding her without worrying about us.”
Everyone fell silent. James looked at Kingston, his gaze deep and steady.
“Thank you.” He turned and strode out of the room.
“James!” Will and the others rushed after him, crowding around his car. Their faces were tight with worry.
“Be careful, James.”
“Come back soon. We’ll be waiting for you.”
“Sis-in-law’s tough. She’ll be okay. You’ll find her, I know it.”
James got into the car, his eyes lingering on each of their anxious faces. At last, he gave them a small, reassuring nod. The car sped off down the road.
“Tyler, it’s confirmed. James really did go abroad on his own for Emmy.”
She moved closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. “This is the best chance we’ll ever have for revenge on Jamie.”
Tyler slowly turned in his wheelchair, his expression unreadable as he watched her.
“Do you understand? If I hadn’t taken the blame for you, the Summer family would be gone from the Capital by now.”
Isabel wasn’t just the one who brought Tyler and Dean together. She was also the mastermind behind Emmy’s secret transfer by ambulance from the private hospital. Tyler had covered every trace, cleaned up every loose end. And still, all Isabel could focus on was vengeance.
She bit her lip, her words sharp with frustration. “That’s why we can’t let him come back alive. Tyler, we’re in this together now.”
“In this country, James is untouchable. He’s got power, the military, everything. No one dares to move against him. But overseas, he’s just another man. Taking him out will be easy.”
