Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 809

This place was supposed to be a study, but honestly, it looked more like a top-tier private lab. Most of the space was taken up by high-tech equipment and a maze of scattered parts. Right in the middle, a giant worktable was crowded with a soldering iron, an oscilloscope, and a 3D printer. Next to them sat a half-finished AI prosthetic, all cool metal and intricate wiring, practically humming with futuristic vibes.

Steve’s eyes wandered over everything until they settled on Emmy, who was bent over the workbench. He couldn’t help but frown.

“Emmy, you’re almost due and you’re still messing around with this stuff? Isn’t it bad for the baby?”

Emmy lifted her head at his voice, her expression calm.

“I have engineers helping me,” she said.

Only then did Steve let out a breath. He walked a little closer, clearly impressed.

“Wow, it looks like you’re nearly done. You’re working at the speed of a government research team, honestly.”

Emmy didn’t bother replying. She walked over to the sofa and sat down, then looked up at Steve.

“I asked you here because I need to talk business.”

Steve didn’t hesitate. He flopped down on the sofa across from her, legs crossed, looking as laid-back as ever.

“This is about your husband, right?” He shot her a teasing look. “Did you two patch things up?”

Emmy ignored that and got straight to the point.

“I want to know everything you’ve got on Tyler, Mr. Nelson, and Martha from the Nelson family. Everything.”

Steve raised an eyebrow, but he didn’t look surprised.

“What exactly do you want to know?” he asked, sounding genuinely curious. “Love life, business dealings, or something else?”

“All of it,” Emmy replied.

An hour later, the dining table was covered with delicious food, the smell filling the room and making everyone’s stomachs growl. But the door to the study stayed closed, not a sound coming from inside.

Teresa glanced at the door, worry flickering in her eyes for just a second before she pasted on a gentle smile and called out to everyone.

When she saw her mom, she managed to look up, her voice tired.

“Mom, I’m fine. Just tired, that’s all. I want to sleep for a bit.”

Lorraine quickly checked her, making sure nothing was wrong, then sighed with relief. Still, her tone was firm.

“Ma’am, you should eat something before you sleep.”

Emmy shook her head. She was exhausted and didn’t even have the energy to argue.

“I’m not hungry.”

“At least drink some milk,” Lorraine said, bringing over a glass she’d already prepared. “You need something in your system. The baby does too.”

At the mention of her baby, Emmy didn’t protest anymore. She took the milk, drank it, and then headed straight to the bedroom.

Lorraine followed her in, watched as Emmy lay down and pulled the blanket over herself, then quietly closed the door behind her before slipping away.
