Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 805

“Don’t be sad, sweetheart.” The old woman’s voice was soft, gentle, almost a whisper. She lifted her other hand and patted the back of Emmy’s lightly.

“The happiest thing in my whole life was watching James bring you home.” She smiled, eyes shining with warmth. “That boy, he’s been through so much. Since he was little, it’s like he’s carried the weight of the world. His heart was always so cold, like a block of ice. No one could ever get through to him.”

She paused, then looked at Emmy with a smile that was both proud and relieved. “And then you showed up.” Her smile grew. “When he looks at you, there’s finally a light in his eyes. It’s like you melted that ice, like he finally knows how to live.”

“I know you’ve had a tough time with the Nelsons.” The old woman squeezed Emmy’s hand. “But don’t blame James. Once that boy decides you’re the one, he means it for life.”

She kept talking, her words flowing in a slow, rambling way, as if she wanted to share every bit of wisdom she had left. After a moment, she reached out for James.

James’s eyes were red and shining with unshed tears. He stepped closer, bent down, and placed his big hand in hers.

The old woman gripped both their hands, then slowly pressed them together, her own hands trembling and cold, but so determined. It felt like she was giving them all the strength she had left.

“James.” She looked up at her grandson, her gaze steady and sharp, full of a seriousness he’d never seen before. “In life, you’ll face so many temptations, so many choices. Your grandfather and your father, they both picked the paths that looked the best from the outside. But in the end, they didn’t have anyone left to really talk to.”

“Promise me you won’t be like them. Don’t trade away the people who love you for things that don’t matter.” Her voice was pleading now. “Take care of your wife and your children. Nothing matters more than family. Nothing.”

James’s throat tightened. He bent down, pressing his face into his grandmother’s hand. His voice was so rough it barely came out. “I promise, Grandma. I swear it. All I want in this life is Emmy and our kids. That’s all.”

A soft knock sounded on the bedroom door. Cadence’s gentle voice drifted in from outside. “Madam, Brian and Martha are here. They’re waiting outside.”

Emmy barely had time to glance back and call, “Goodbye, Grandma!” before James was pulling her outside.

They walked through the quiet yard and into the silent alleyway behind the house. Emmy felt almost dizzy, the world spinning a little. She remembered last year, when the heads of the Nelson family had shown up out of nowhere. It was this same path, and James had grabbed her hand just like this, leading her out the back.

Back then, she’d already guessed he was Mr. Nelson, but he’d denied it again and again. Looking back, she understood why he did it, even if it still hurt a little. She let out a quiet sigh.

She turned to say something to James, but the words caught in her throat when she saw his face. He looked darker than she’d ever seen him. It wasn’t that cold, distant look she knew from Mr. Nelson. This was something else—something raw and angry, pain and fury twisting in every line of his face. It was as if he could break apart at any second.

Emmy felt her heart clench. She swallowed back what she’d been about to say and blurted out something else instead. “Are you… okay?”
