Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 796

After Dean hung up, Claudia’s plan flickered through his mind for a second, but he quickly brushed it off. He was sure Emmy’s attitude toward him had softened. She’d even stopped talking to James. With her agricultural project getting slammed online and everything falling apart, she needed someone powerful on her side. He was certain that person could only be him.

He didn’t think about it any further. Once he finished his work, he headed back to his bedroom.

If Emmy ever walked in right now, she’d be shocked out of her mind. The place was covered with her photos—her laughing, frowning, fast asleep. Every emotion, every moment, frozen on the walls. Directly across from the bed, a massive wedding photo looked down on everything, exactly like the one from their past life. Dean had gone out of his way to have it made.

By the bed sat a life-sized silicone doll, so realistic it could have been Emmy’s twin. Dean walked over, treating it like it was the most precious thing in the world. He wrapped his arms around the doll, pressed his face against its neck, and breathed her in. His long fingers traced the cold, lifeless face with an almost obsessive tenderness.

“Emmy…”

His voice was so soft, it could melt, but underneath was something dark and possessive.

“Once the election is over, come back to me, okay? I swear, I’ll love you more than ever. I’ll make up for everything I did before...”

What Dean didn’t know was that Emmy wasn’t ignoring James at all. At that very moment, the woman he couldn’t stop thinking about was wrapped in someone else’s arms. Her lips were parted, her breathing quick and uneven.

The only light in the bedroom was a dim lamp, casting everything in a warm, hazy glow. James’s breathing was hot and heavy against Emmy’s skin, making her shiver. He held back, not wanting to push her too far. The fire burning inside him, the desire that threatened to take over, was kept in check by sheer willpower.

Still, Emmy’s hand had definitely paid the price.

Ever since Lorraine became her maternity nurse, she’d been on top of every tiny detail of Emmy’s care, sometimes even more than Emmy herself. Emmy never remembered when she needed her nails trimmed, but Lorraine always showed up right on time, ready to take care of her.

Lorraine worked quickly and professionally, and soon Emmy’s nails were neat and clean.

Once Lorraine had packed up and left, Emmy picked up her phone and snapped a quick photo of her hand. In the morning light, her skin looked extra soft and fair, her nails perfectly rounded and pink at the tips.

She couldn’t help herself. She sent the picture to James, along with a little complaint:

[This hand is out of commission today. You’re responsible.]
