Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 781

Emmy let out a soft sound, almost losing her balance as his kiss overwhelmed her. The faint taste of mint lingered on his lips, but it hit James like the strongest shot, fueling the storm of emotion inside him. He wrapped one arm around her waist, tugging off his tie with the other. The click of his belt buckle broke through the quiet air.

Emmy tipped her head back, arms locked tight around his neck, kissing him as if she’d been waiting forever. It had been more than two weeks since they last saw each other. The longing was intense, wild, almost desperate, their bodies craving the comfort and familiarity only the other could bring. Soon, his suit jacket, that expensive shirt, and her dress all ended up scattered across the carpet.

They barely made it to the bedroom before tumbling onto the bed, tangled together and breathless. Neither of them said a word. They didn’t have to. Every touch, every movement, spilled out the longing that had sunk deep into their bones.

James never forgot to be careful with her rounded belly, fighting to keep himself in check. Even when he was on the verge of losing control, he kept holding Emmy’s hand, grounding himself in her, letting his need crash over him but never letting go of her.

When it was over, they lay together, sweaty and spent, arms wrapped tight. Emmy’s eyes were still wet, a tear sparkling at the corner. Her voice came out rough as she broke the silence.

“With Dean, I needed to get him to back off,” she said, her words quiet but determined. “The projects I’m about to take on will make money fast. I don’t want him competing with Nelson Corporation and slowing me down.”

James didn’t answer with words. Instead, he kissed the tear from her cheek, his hand running gently over her stomach, warm and steady.

A long silence passed before he finally spoke, his voice low and thick. “Are you tired?”

Just those two words and something inside Emmy broke. All the strength she’d been holding on to, all her careful planning, all her pretending, just collapsed in an instant. Of course he knew what she’d been dealing with. He always knew.

“It’s not that simple,” she said, looking up at him, her eyes blurred with tears but filled with resolve. “Once the baby is born, if anyone from the Nelson family tries to take them, my secret will be out. If I don’t give it everything I have right now, if I don’t build up enough security for myself, I might not even get the chance to fight later.”

James’s brows drew together, his heart twisting. He knew she was right. All this pain and pressure had landed on her because of him. The guilt was sharp, wrapping around his heart, but even more than that, he felt something deeper—he was moved by her strength.

He knew Emmy could have chosen the easy way out, just divorce him. If she did, the Nelson family would have no reason to go after their baby. He’d always been scared she might make that choice. But now, holding her in his arms, seeing her fighting so hard for their child, for the first time, James started to really think about what that would mean.

Emmy had no idea what was going through his mind. She stayed close against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart, and then, almost out of nowhere, she asked, “Did you get the shares from the head of the Nelson family?”
