Teresa stepped out, her coat draped over her shoulders. She couldn’t help but smile when she saw her daughter’s shy, lovestruck look. It had been ages since Emmy showed that side of herself, like a girl caught up in her first romance.
“You’re all home. Come in. I had the kitchen make some snacks. Eat a little before bed,” Teresa called out, her voice warm.
There’s a saying that a little time apart makes love feel brand new. Emmy and James were living proof. From the moment they walked through the door, they stayed close, their hands never letting go, their eyes locked like no one else existed.
Teresa watched them and just shook her head. She ate a few bites, then made up an excuse to head back to her room, not wanting to play chaperone. Krystina was quick to grab Ollie and retreat to the guest room.
Just like that, the big dining room was empty except for Emmy and James.
After their late night snack, they made their way to the bedroom. James had his hand on the doorknob, but before the door even clicked shut, he spun around and pulled Emmy straight into his arms. His kisses were hot and urgent, landing everywhere at once.
If Emmy missed him, James missed her even more. Three days apart felt endless, and he couldn’t get used to sleeping without her. The empty space beside him at night drove him half crazy.
Emmy tipped her head back, arms twining around his neck, kissing him back with just as much need. Their kiss was all heat and hunger, every second apart catching up with them now.
They barely made it to the bed, still tangled up in each other. James laid her down gently, finally pausing just enough to breathe, his chest rising and falling with every heavy breath. His eyes were dark and full of want, his voice rough.
“Was your trip tiring?”
Emmy saw the fire in his eyes. She shook her head, breathless. “Not at all.”
Before her words could even hang in the air, she reached up and kissed him again. That was all it took. James lost the last bit of control he had.
His kisses grew desperate, like he wanted to pull her closer than possible. His hand slipped under her shirt, gliding over her skin, sending shivers racing along her body.
