Emmy’s words were perfectly measured. She accepted Jared’s kindness with grace, but also managed to shift her own “building a legacy” ambition into something bigger, something about the future and the next generation. Just like that, she made Jared’s purpose seem more meaningful too.
Jared seemed pleased. He nodded, his eyes dark and thoughtful, a hint of approval flickering there.
He didn’t say anything else, just turned and left with his secretary and the plainclothes security.
Only when their group had completely disappeared did Danny come over, speaking quietly to Emmy. “Ms. Eincoln, we’ve exchanged contact info. Mr. Nelson’s secretary said we can talk about the details online tonight.”
Abriella finally snapped out of her shock. She rushed over, clutching Emmy’s arm, still pale. “What did you guys even talk about? Emmy, weren’t you scared of him? Not even a little?”
“Scared of what?” Emmy smiled, a little thoughtful. “Sure, Mr. Nelson’s got this cold, intense vibe, but honestly, as long as you don’t stir things up, he’s actually... pretty easy to figure out.”
Abriella could only stare, completely lost.
Krystina came over too, eyes wide. “Wait, seriously? You can just talk business with someone like him?”
Emmy raised an eyebrow, her eyes bright. “It’s not that hard. People just want different things.”
“He wants a win, and to look good. I want strong policy support and a steady ally. We both get what we want, so why wouldn’t we work together?”
Krystina shook her head, half helpless, half admiring. “Emmy, I swear, your brain never stops. You’re always adding another piece to your business empire.”
The ribbon cutting ceremony that morning went off without a hitch. There were more officials than usual, and the media flashes were so constant that everyone was blinking.
As the project lead, Emmy stood onstage, speaking with confidence. When the ceremony was over, she shook hands with each official and smiled for the cameras. The “Starlight Rural Aid” project was suddenly everywhere, all eyes on it.
