James lowered his eyes, letting out a slightly unnatural cough as he explained, "I just realized I brought the wrong clothes and do not have another dark coat." He spun a rather unconvincing lie. "I will just have to make do with this white suit."
Emmy could not help but walk a circle around him, her gaze sweeping from his broad shoulders all the way down his perfectly pressed trousers. "How is this making do?" She clicked her tongue in admiration, absolutely unsparing with her praise. "This is way too handsome. You look like you are about to attend a top level national summit." She stopped in front of him, looking up with her eyes curving into happy crescents. "Honey, you should wear this color more often. I love seeing it on you."
James's thin lips curled into a gentle, doting smile, and his voice went husky. "Alright. I will wear it for you often from now on."
Looking at the man standing before her, Emmy's competitive spirit was suddenly ignited. This would not do. Tonight was the big night she was going to propose to him. Since he was dressed like a majestic Prince Charming, she could not exactly propose in this ordinary loungewear coat, could she? She would completely lose out in terms of presence.
"No way," Emmy suddenly took a step back. She stared at James and declared, "You look so good, I cannot let myself fall behind. You stand right here and wait for me." With that, she turned and darted back into the bedroom.
James stood in place, letting out a helpless, low chuckle.
About ten minutes later, the bedroom door opened once again. The moment Emmy reappeared in the hallway, time seemed to stand still in James's eyes. She had swapped her somewhat heavy coat for a highly textured, white winter dress that cinched at the waist. The tailoring was incredibly flattering, perfectly accentuating the graceful curves she had regained after giving birth. Draped over her shoulders was a soft, snow white plush shawl, making her small face look even more delicate and captivating. Her long hair was casually pinned up at the back of her head, revealing a slender, swan like neck. Because it was a rushed wardrobe change, she had not done a full face of makeup, opting only for a swipe of retro, true red lipstick. Yet, that perfectly placed red lip pushed her aura of aloof, alluring innocence to its absolute peak.
She stood with her hands playfully clasped behind her back, tilting her head slightly as she looked at him. The warm hallway light hit her glowing skin, making her look breathtakingly beautiful, like an elf descending into the mortal realm.
James's breathing instantly grew heavier. His eyes were filled with unconcealed amazement and infatuation. Driven by an uncontrollable urge, he closed the distance between them in a few long strides. His bottomless dark eyes locked onto her vibrant red lips as he leaned down to kiss her.
