The Capital remained brilliantly illuminated late into the night, its streets weaving with endless streams of traffic. Standing tall in the center of the business district, the Nelson Corporation headquarters glowed with an eerie brightness amidst the neon skyline. James's black SUV rolled to a halt at the intersection. He pushed the door open and stepped out. Shadow Core operatives were already on standby downstairs. Just then, a chorus of screeching tires tore through the night sky. Several heavy black SUVs sped onto the scene and slammed their brakes in a tight perimeter. A car door was shoved open. Will, clad entirely in black tactical gear and combat boots, leaped down first.
"Master Sergeant." Will approached with a grin, a holster strapped to his waist. "How could we miss out on a night like this?"
Following his words, the doors of the other vehicles swung open in rapid succession. Several tall, heavily armed men stepped out one by one. Wearing tactical vests and combat gear, their heavy boots struck the asphalt with a synchronized, muffled thud. They did not intentionally form a formation, but just standing there, the iron-blooded killing intent they had honed through mountains of corpses and seas of blood instantly overshadowed the Shadow Core bodyguards. James looked at this group of brothers who had suddenly appeared, the cold sternness in his eyes softening as a hint of surprise flashed through his gaze. He had not expected them to come. Since their special ops team disbanded, these men had scattered across major military zones, SWAT units, and critical departments, each becoming a powerful figure who monitored the Capital's every move. Clearly, they had received word that he planned to purge the corporation tonight and had come fully armed to assist.
James stared at them, his deep eyes surging with profound gratitude and pride. He had handpicked every single one of these men from the brink of death and devilish training camps. Back when his superiors ordered him to assemble the nation's sharpest blade, it took him three full years to gather them all. Every man was a rare elite, truly one in a million. Even without following him, any one of them could have forged an earth-shattering legacy on their own. Calculating the time, the earliest recruits had been with him for fifteen years. Fifteen years of life-and-death bonds forged in a hail of bullets. Even though the squad had disbanded and they had all gone their separate ways, the brotherhood among them would never fade. James's jaw tightened, his Adam's apple bobbing. He reined in his emotions, his gaze returning to the sharp, resolute focus he once held when rallying the special ops team.
"I leave it to you, then," James said with a solemn nod. "Help me lock down all the building's exits. Do not let a single person leave."
The group of high-ranking men snapped to attention in perfect unison, exactly as they had in their special ops days. Their backs were ramrod straight, their combat boots slamming together with a deafening thud.
