The declaration caught Elina completely off guard, and even Teresa looked a bit surprised. But to Emmy, it felt entirely natural. Who ever made the rule that only men could get down on one knee to propose? A woman could absolutely take the initiative and propose to the man she loved with all her heart.
After surviving so many life-and-death trials together, she understood the depth of James's devotion better than anyone. She had thought about it carefully. She wanted to wear a wedding dress for him one more time. She wanted to formally marry him again, surrounded by the friends and family who mattered most. She wanted them to have the most beautiful memories to look back on when they grew old and sat together in rocking chairs. So, she refused to follow Abriella's advice about dropping subtle hints. If she loved him, she was going to tell him loud and clear.
Driven by that resolve, Emmy dove into the discussion with Elina. She scrutinized every single detail, from the material of the band and the cutting technique to the hidden engravings inside. They went back and forth, revising and refining the sketches for over an hour until they finally settled on the first draft of the matching rings. Looking at the exquisite, perfectly complementary designs on the paper, Emmy couldn't help but smile.
While Emmy was secretly designing wedding rings, things were moving on the other end of the city.
On the way to Brian's villa, James sat in the back of the SUV, having just concluded a video conference with a famous ring designer. With his usual decisive efficiency, he had finalized his own design for their matching rings.
The car was quiet, save for the rapid clacking of Steve's fingers flying across his keyboard. He was racing against the clock to finish the legal agreements James had requested. Typing the very last line, Steve let out a long breath of relief. He turned to report his progress, only to catch a glimpse of the ring designs displayed on James's phone screen.
Steve raised an eyebrow, teasing him immediately. "Oh, designing couple rings now? Didn't you already have a pair designed before?"
Back when James and Emmy first got their marriage license, Steve had handled all the necessary paperwork on the Nelson Corporation side. He remembered the wedding bands James had commissioned back then being absolutely stunning. He had even seen Emmy wearing hers for quite a while. But thinking about it now, both of their hands had indeed been noticeably bare lately. He couldn't help but wonder what these two lovebirds were up to.
