Steve was known for his sharp tongue and slacker attitude. But James could tell that his annoying jokes were just a cover for the pain and loneliness inside. Back when Steve was in love with Abriella, his feelings were stubborn but nowhere near as torturous as his current infatuation with Sylvia. James usually hated meddling in other people's love lives. Yet, seeing his longtime friend suffer day after day was finally too much to bear. After mulling it over, he decided to break his own rule and speak up.
Sylvia froze when she heard his words, a flash of astonishment in her eyes. She never expected Mr. Nelson to pull her aside specifically to ask about her private love life. After a brief moment of surprise, she lowered her head and stared at the tips of her shoes in silence. When she looked back up, her tone was crisp and decisive. "Yes, I don't like him."
The answer was exactly what James had expected. But he didn't stop there. He shifted his approach and continued in a steady, unhurried voice. "I heard Abriella set you up on a few blind dates recently. A couple of those guys were my old brothers-in-arms. They have solid character and capabilities. Did none of them catch your eye?"
Sylvia quickly shook her head to clear up any misunderstanding. "Mr. Nelson, you misunderstand. It's not that they aren't good men. It's my own issue. I just don't want to think about dating right now. Emmy and Mr. Carter entrusted me with this massive company. All I want to do is make Agri-Tech Ventures a success. Everything else is off the table."
Hearing this, James pressed no further. He genuinely wanted to help his friend, but matters of the heart could never be forced. Since Sylvia had no desire for romance at this stage in her life, saying anything more would be useless. He nodded, his eyes showing a touch of approval. "You are exceptional. Emmy certainly chose the right person. But work is just work. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, and make sure to take care of your health."
Sylvia felt a subtle warmth at his words of concern and gave a soft nod. "Thank you for caring, Mr. Nelson." She glanced toward the living room before adding, "If there is nothing else, I should get back to Emmy."
