That sentence pierced Shelly's sore spot like a poisoned needle. She had indeed lived a life of pampered luxury for far too long. When she was young, she listened to her brother Trenton. After marrying into the Nelson family, she listened to her husband. Then she had Mrs. Nelson protecting her, followed by her incredibly powerful son, James. Her life had been entirely too comfortable and smooth. It was so easy that she could no longer tell whether the advice people gave her was well intentioned or malicious. For years, she had wandered around like an idiot, either actively being used or well on her way to being manipulated. She absolutely despised Emmy, but right now, she hated being treated like a brainless pawn even more.
An uncontrollable wave of fury exploded in her mind. She suddenly snapped, throwing herself at Martha with reckless abandon. "You are a woman who should have been married off and out of this family years ago! What gives you the right to point your finger at me!"
Shelly moved with such terrifying speed that Martha could not dodge in time. The elegant matriarch never dreamed that the usually proud and refined Shelly would suddenly pounce on her like a madwoman. In the next second, Shelly's hands clamped down tightly around Martha's perfectly maintained, slender neck.
Martha let out a choked gasp. In all her years, she had never been physically attacked like this. Terrified and thrashing wildly, she desperately tried to push the heavy weight off her body. But Shelly was completely red eyed with rage, letting out a hysterical roar from the depths of her throat.
"You are all pushing me! Why does everyone have to force me into a corner!" Shelly screamed, her fingers tightening like a vise while her manicured nails dug painfully into Martha's flesh. "You even spread rumors that I have a mental illness! I am the eldest daughter of the Sullivan family! Why should I let you people treat me like a fool, insulting and using me however you please! I will kill you! I will kill you!"
