Tiffany held onto him tightly, practically hanging off his body with a playful and stubborn tone. "I don't care! I'm holding onto you! If you don't let me link arms with you, that completely clueless, straight guy comment you made in the group chat this morning is going to cause a riot. If the admins really want to kick you out, even I won't be able to protect you as the president!"
Brett looked down at the girl clinging to his arm and tied his eyebrows into a tight knot. He didn't want to push her away, but he didn't want to let her stay either. Finally, left with no other choice, he braced himself and compromised, letting her hold onto him. However, his entire body was as tense as a solid block of granite, making his walking posture stiff and awkward.
As the two of them walked out of the mall, Brett's overly rigid military posture and his expression, which looked as if he were facing a formidable enemy, drew frequent sideways glances from passersby. Anyone could tell at a glance that he was definitely a soldier. Tiffany, on the other hand, paid absolutely no attention to the stares of others. She was thrilled beyond measure. Linking her arm with his sturdy one, she skipped forward along the way, looking exactly like a happy little sparrow.
She happily dragged Brett on a crazy shopping spree through the mall. She bought him high-end casual clothes, limited-edition sneakers, stylish hats, and expensive watches. As long as she felt something suited him, Tiffany would swipe her card without a second thought. It wasn't until a particular checkout that Brett pulled an old phone with chipped edges from his pocket.
Tiffany frowned in sheer disgust. "Your phone is so old, and the edges of the screen are completely scratched up. Come on, I'll take you to the flagship store up ahead and buy you the newest model."
Brett hurriedly stuffed the phone back into his inner pocket, covering it tightly with his large hand. "No, no, I don't need it. I can just replace the screen and keep using this one."
Tiffany looked puzzled. "That phone brand is several years old by now. The operating system must be lagging. They released new models ages ago!"
Brett remained unusually insistent, his expression turning incredibly serious. "This is the phone our captain, James, gave us. It absolutely cannot be replaced." At the mention of James, a gleam of reverence flashed in Brett's eyes, and even his back straightened a bit more. "The technicians at headquarters upgrade the system on our phones regularly every year. These are military-grade encrypted devices. You can't just buy them in stores."
Hearing this, Tiffany gave a helpless shrug. Since it was a military device, she couldn't force the issue and had to abandon the idea of getting him a new phone.
