Someone immediately snapped at Abriella.
[Why are you freaking out, Abriella? This is between Emmy and Evelina. Who asked you to butt in?]
“Yeah, maybe Emmy actually wanted to give her that gift. Stop trying to stir things up.”
Abriella was so mad she could barely see straight. “Stir things up? Please. You’re all a bunch of fake, spineless followers. I’m done wasting my time on idiots who can’t see the truth if it hit them in the face!”
Right then, a private message from Emmy popped up: [Abriella, just leave the group. There’s no point wasting your breath.]
As soon as she sent it, Emmy hit the leave button herself and got out first.
A second later, Abriella’s voice message came in, her anger almost crackling through the phone. “Ugh, I’m so pissed! How can Evelina be so shameless? You spent so many sleepless nights making that figurine, and now she acts like you just gave it to her? And then sends some fake ‘thank you’ message? Give me a break.”
Her best friend stood so fiercely on her side. It made Emmy’s heart feel a little less cold.
“You’re right. She doesn’t deserve it. If I made something with my own hands, I have every right to take it back.”
Emmy walked over to her desk, flipped open her laptop, and started typing furiously. After a few seconds, she hit Enter.
A box popped up in the middle of the screen:
[Core chip self-destruct program activated. Estimated completion: ten seconds.]
The screen went dark, and Emmy finally felt some of the tension in her body start to melt away.
She’d done it.
Turns out, destroying something you once treasured isn’t as impossible as it seems.
Abriella called her again. “Emmy! Are you okay? Don’t let those two get to you. They’re not worth it.”
A small smile danced at Emmy’s lips. Having a friend like this really was a gift.
