Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1315

After lunch, Emmy went straight to find Harlene. By now, Harlene had officially started her new job at Janus Sphere Technologies and was busy getting on track with a team of top-notch scientists. When she heard Emmy was looking for her, she ran out of the lab, still wearing her white coat.

“Did you remember something?” Harlene’s eyes were shining with excitement. “I told you, extreme sports are the best way to get your brain working again. That rush when you almost feel like you might die? It’s perfect for jogging your memory.”

Emmy just shook her head, a little helpless. “Sorry to let you down.”

She blew out a breath. “I didn’t remember a thing. Honestly, I didn’t even feel anything special… I have no idea what’s going wrong.”

Harlene looked a bit surprised. “What have you tried? Any new sports?”

Emmy listed them off, mostly skydiving. “The first couple of jumps, I was terrified. But after that, it was pure fun. No fear at all.”

Harlene rolled her eyes so hard it was almost comical. “Well, that’s your problem right there!”

She didn’t hesitate to point it out. “You can’t bring your husband with you every single time. He makes you feel so safe. He’s literally shielding you from everything. How is your brain supposed to think you’re in any danger at all?”

Harlene held out her hands. “Even if you jumped off a building, your subconscious knows he’d catch you. No way are you going to get that real edge-of-death feeling.”

She lowered her voice, turning a little serious. “This therapy only works if you actually feel completely alone. That sense of panic, like nobody’s coming to help.”

Emmy’s eyes widened. It suddenly made sense. No wonder she was so exhausted from all the effort, but hadn’t stirred up even a scrap of memory. James was just too good at making her feel safe.

Maybe, she thought, there really are some things you shouldn’t do with your husband.

“Alright. I get it. I’ll give it another shot.”

...

Emmy went back to the cliff where she’d tried cliff diving before. She walked to the edge, determined to go through with it.

But the second the instructor spotted her, he turned pale.
